Good morning! Today I have quick reviews & swatches of five of my favorite mlbb (my lips but better) / neutral / natural lipsticks & glosses. These aren’t what I’d call nude lipsticks – I think of those as paler than my natural lip tone – but rather rosy, natural colors. I tend to wear this type of lip color to work, and all five of these are frequently used.
MAC Huggable Lipstick in Out For Passion is the only limited edition product in the bunch. Sadly, it’s no longer available, but it’s a lovely, fresh, slightly glossy pink with a hint of sheerness. Full review here.
Tarina Tarantino Conditioning Lip Sheens are one of my favorite lipstick formulas (reviews). They’re no longer sold at Sephora, but luckily still available at Dermstore.com and on the Tarina Tarantino website. Queen Alice is a really great natural pink, again slightly glossy with a hint of sheerness, but bit deeper than MAC Out For Passion (not that you can tell from the lip swatch!). Another Tarina Tarantino favorites is Prong, which is similar to Queen Alice but slightly browner.
Next up we have Revlon’s Lip Butter in Pink Truffle. I don’t see much written about Lip Butters anymore, but I still really love mine. Pink Truffle is slightly glossy and has a bit of sheerness – noticing a pattern? I find this kind of texture so easy to wear. Pink Truffle is browner than the MAC or the Tarina Tarantino. I don’t have a lip swatch for this one, arm swatch is at the end of the post.
Maybelline’s Color Elixir glosses are newish, but Intoxicating Spice is already a favorite. It’s quite pigmented (for a gloss), but still has some translucency. It’s most similar in color to Queen Alice, but a little deeper. My reviews of the Color Elixir glosses are here & here.
And finally, Essence Stay With Me Long Lasting Lipgloss in Choose Me! is the only choice of mine with sparkle, but I find that it’s not visible on the lips. This looks quite similar to Intoxicating Spice when swatched, but on the lips it has a hint more berry while Intoxicating spice is slightly more brown. I swatched four of the Essence glosses here. Sorry, no lip swatch for this one either!
I picked these out without considering the price, and it’s interesting to me to see that my favorites include both department store and drugstore brands. I really believe that there’s great quality makeup at all price levels.
What’s your favorite MLBB lipstick or gloss?
