Light Medium Foundations BB Creams
In this post, I swatched 15 different foundations for you; I seem to have accumulated some more (mostly samples), so I have more swatches for you.

Light Medium Foundation Swatches

Guerlain 31 // Guerlain 02 // MAC NW20 // MAC NC20 // WnW 816 // WnW 817

Guerlain Lingerie de Peau in 31 Ambre Pale & 02 Beige Clair: As I noted in my prior foundation swatch post, I love the finish of this one and have a bottle of 02, but it’s too pinky-peachy for me (my full review is here).  The 01, 02, 03 series have beige undertones, and I need a foundation with yellow undertones.  I got a sample from Sephora of 31, but it’s far too light for me.  I think 32 would be a good match (the 30s all have yellow undertones), but unfortunately it’s an Asia-exclusive.

MAC Studio Sculpt in NW20 and NC20: I asked for samples of both of these at the MAC store when I was looking for a good full coverage, moisturizing foundation.  I was matched to NW20, but suspected that NC20 would be a better match, and I was correct.  I have yellowish undertones, but surface redness, which sometimes confuses people who are trying to match me to foundation. It’s very nice foundation; once I finish my sample I may buy a full size.

Wet n Wild Cover All Cream Foundation in 616 Fair/Light & 617 Light: I was suprised that I liked this foundation as much as I did – it’s a real bargain at $4, and feels like a more expensive foundation! Definitely worth a try if you’re looking for something inexpensive and full coverage.  Full review here!

Light Medium Foundation Swatches-2

Laura Mercier // Holika Holika // Missha 21 // Missha 23

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Beige Ivory: I also picked up this sample when I was looking for a full coverage moisturizing foundation (my skin was pretty unhappy for a while earlier this winter!). I like it a lot; good match, nice texture.

Holika Holika Peach Girl BB Cream in 02: I like this a lot, but it’s not as good of a match for me or as natural looking as Missha’s Perfect BB Cream, so I’ve been neglecting it lately in favor of the Missha. Full review here; and if you want to purchase, I recommend the ebay seller rubyruby76.

Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream in 21 & 23: I adore these; I’ve been wearing them (mixed together) almost every single day since I got them. I have the small travel sized tubes, but I’ll be purchasing the full size ones for sure! In fact, I think I might go buy them right now to allow for shipping time from Korea – I don’t want to run out! Full review here; and I recommend the same ebay seller.

Note: Both the Holika Holika and Missha BB Creams go on the skin with a greyish cast, and then in a few minutes warm up to better match my skintone.  I left the swatches on my arm for a few minutes to better let them warm up to my skintone, but I don’t think that they fully changed color since they were not fully blended in.

I still have a couple foundation samples I didn’t manage to swatch, so I’m sure there will eventually be a third installment of this series!

  • I’m going to have to try out the Wet n Wild one, I just hope the lightest does the trick!

  • Tasha

I have the Missha bb cream as well. I love the coverage and finish, but I can’t get over the scent. And I find that the scent lingers throughout the day. Am I the only one who thinks it smells horrible?

    • Hmmm, mine has a slight scent but it’s fairly pleasant. Fakes do exist, and I’ve heard some of them have an off/bad scent – where did you purchase yours? Ebay sellers from Korea are usually real, but I’d be wary of sellers from China (some are probably fine, but some are not).

      • Tasha

I purchased mine from missha.us.com which I’m assuming is the official US site. I think my skin and my nose are just sensitive to scents.

        • Oh yup, that’s the official site – definitely real then! I’m sorry that the scent doesn’t work for you.

Based on these swatches Mac’s NW20 would be the better match, but honestly neither is great. The Holika or the WnW 817 are pretty on the money. But then again you should be matching to your neck so my advice may only be worth 2 cents : P

    • I see what you mean about NW20 matching my arm better in the photo, but like you said, that doesn’t really mean much in terms of matching my face / neck. Blended out on my face, NW20 looks sort of peachy and orange on me, while NC20 disappears into my skin quite nicely 🙂

For those that hate ebay, RubyRuby has a non-ebay shop now at roseroseshop.com.

I love the Peach Girl BB (I have shade 1) because it brightens my complexion with out bringing out my redness. I ordered the Missha M Perfect Cover BB but only have a sample to compare the two. The Missha one definitely has better coverage but didn’t really “warm” up my face the way Peach Girl does. Both are really nice and well worth a purchase.

    • I’m glad to know about the shop, thank you! And it’s good to know about the differences for you between the BB Creams, I’m always interested to hear how things work out for different people!

  • Great article! I am always on the look-out for a good new foundation.

  • hmmm i had a guerlain foundation in shade 02 or 03 and it was too pinky undertoned. i’ll have to look into the 30s then! 🙂
