Nails Inc Leather Effect Noho Swatch

I’m (still!) loving the textured polish trend, and I was really wanting a black. I was waiting for a drugstore brand to release one, but since none seems forthcoming, I broke down and bought the Nails, Inc. Leather Effect Polish in Noho.  Nails, Inc.’s leather effect polishes are textured, but have a finer grain than other textured polishes I’ve tried. Nails, Inc. has another textured polish, the Concrete Effect polish, which appears to be more similar in texture to say, Milani’s textured polishes.

Milani Textured Cream Nail Polish Quick Swatches

milani textured cream nail polish swatches - grey - purple

Milani recently released six new limited edition textured nail polishes, which are currently available at Walgreens and at a few other retailers (but not CVS or Rite Aid). They’re also available on the Milani website.  I found a display at Walgreens this morning, and purchased two shades – Shady Gray and Purple Streak.

I’m wearing both polishes now as a full manicure – on my left hand, I have my ring and thumbnail purple and the remaining fingers grey; I’ve done the opposite on my right hand.  I didn’t use a base coat, but I don’t see why you couldn’t – it wouldn’t interfere with the texture.  Of course, you can’t use a top coat.

The textured polish is slighly sheer after one coat, and the textured effect doesn’t look quite right – it sort of looks like uneven grains of sand stuck in the polish.  After two coats, it’s completely opaque and the textured effect is evenly distributed over the nail.  Drying time was normal.  I don’t know about wear time yet, but I expect that these will wear well – both OPI’s Liquid Sand and Zoya’s Pixiedust textured polishes wear very well on me, longer than regular polish.

I am really enjoying the textured nail trend.  I love the OPI liquid sand polishes – I bought the mini set with all four – and just purchased one of Zoya’s Pixie Dust polishes, which you see in the photo above.  Photos don’t capture the polish very well though – you can see the matte, textured effect, but you can’t see how incredibly sparkly the polish is.  The contrast between the matte and the sparkle is part of what makes the look work so well.

I’m also eagerly awaiting the Milani textured polishes – they’re online at Milani.com (though the page doesn’t seem to be working at the moment), but I haven’t seen them yet at drugstores in my area. I’m planning to get the gray only; I’m not yet sold on the idea of brightly colored textured polish.  Here’s the promo image, in case you haven’t seen it yet:

Also – some minor updates:

– I added more Wet n Wild Toppings Collection swatches to this post.

– I purchased a couple more Rimmel Scandal Eyes liners (black and purple), and added swatches to my original review.

– I also purchased one more Rimmel Scandal Eyes shadow stick (in Paranoid Purple) and added a swatch to my review.
