Wet n Wild MegaSlicks Balm Stains Review & Swatches

Purchased – No Affiliate Links

Wet n Wild Lady and the Vamp Red-dy or Not Rico Mauve Balm Stains

Good morning! Today I have swatches of three of Wet n Wild’s new MegaSlicks Balm Stains.  As you can see, these are packaged like all the other twist up lip pencils — RevlonKissable Balm Stains, Jordana balm stains, Hard Candy All Glossed Up pencils, Covergirl Gloss Balms, Tarte Lipsurgence pencils, etc.

The Wet n Wild balm stains are a permanent addition to the line, and come in six colors. I have Lady and the Vamp, Red-dy or Not, and Rico Mauve. The other shades are named A Stiff Pink, Pinky Promise, and Nudist Colony.

Hard Candy Love Bite All Glossed Up Hydrating Lip Stain Review & Swatches

Hard Candy All Glossed Up Lip Stain Love Bite

Hard Candy (which is exclusively available in Walmart stores and on Walmart.com) recently released several new products, including the “All Glossed Up” jumbo lip pencil, which is described as a hydrating lip stain. I purchased one in the color “Love Bite” – a pinky-purple.

I always have trouble photographing purples, so this swatch is not as color accurate as I would like; the pencil is actual a bit more purple.  Still, you can see that the pencil has translucent-but-pigmented glossy color.  I found it very comfortable to wear; neither moisturizing nor drying.

The lip swatch photograph is also a touch too pink.  You can see how glossy and smooth my lips look, however! As promised, the pencil left a stain, though the stain was not particularly long-lasting.

I did not notice any smell or taste; unlike the Revlon Kissable Balm Stains, these do not have a peppermint scent, which I was half expecting just because these are similarly packaged.

Overall, I like this product – it is glossy and comfortable to wear, and because of the stain, reasonably long wearing. I do wish that the shade I picked, Love Bite, was more purple and less pink, but it’s still a nice shade (and is more purple than appears in the photos).  For $5, I’d say that it’s worth purchasing one to try out if it looks appealing to you!

Stila Electric Pink After Glow Lip Color – Swatch of the Day

Stila After Glow Lip Color Electric Pink

Stila recently released four After Glow lip color jumbo pencils; they’re neon by day, and glow under blacklight (I don’t own a blacklight to verify this, which is why this isn’t a full review).

Electric Pink is an eye-searingly bright pink. To my eyes (and on my monitor), this swatch is relatively color-accurate. It’s that bright!

Here it is on my lips; note that the product is meant to leave a long-lasting stain, and it does.

I don’t usually wear pinks on my lips, but when I do, I want them to be seriously bright, and this shade definitely fits the bill! However, I found that it clung to any dry patches on my lips – your lips need to be in really excellent condition for this to look good.

New NARS Satin Lip Pencil Swatches

NARS Satin Lip Pencil - Palais Royal

NARS Satin Lip Pencil – Palais Royal

I’ve been hanging out at The Makeup Show Los Angeles, which is a pro-only beauty show, and I have so many pictures and lots of information to share with you all. I’m going to start with one of the most exciting things – swatches of all of NARS’s Satin Lip Pencils, which are new for Spring 2013 – I believe they launch in the U.S. on March 7th, and worldwide on April 1st, though they are available for purchase at The Makeup Show (& I did buy one, which I will review once I have the chance to test it out – review is here).

Note: As of 3/6, these are now available for purchase on Nordstrom.com!

They’re packaged just like NARS’s Velvet Matte and Velvet Gloss pencils – a jumbo pencil that you sharpen – and they come in 13 shades; 12 will be sold at all the usual places, and one shade, Jardin Des Plantes, is exclusive to the freestanding NARS boutiques.

The following photos were taken with flash; you can see how glossy the pencils are! Note that the darker colors all left a persistent stain on my arm, and the lighter colors (the nudes) did not leave stains.  I’m guessing that these are going to be quite long-wearing, but I’ll get back to you on that.

Please note that the shade names Lodhi & Luxembourg were switched for the first hour or so this post was up; I apologize for the mistake! I am reasonably sure the rest are correct (I double checked my notes) – but if you think there’s something wrong, please let me know!

And finally, Jardin Des Plantes – this one (again), is the boutique exclusive. I believe that boutique exclusives are generally available on narscosmetics.com, but not at other retailers.

Sonia Kashuk Berry Nude Velvety Matte Lip Crayon Review & Swatches

I’ve heard some good things recently about Sonia Kashuk’s Velvety Matte Lip Crayons, so the last time I was at Target, I bought Berry Nude 06 to check out.  The Velvety Matte Lip Crayons seem to come in six shades (Nudey Nude, Pinky Nude, Blossomy Nude, Berry Nude, Mulberry Nude, and Rosey Nude), and retail for around $7.50.

I dislike the packaging on these.  I don’t mind that they need to be sharpened, rather than twist-up; I’ve actually come to prefer non-twist-ups. Sharpening wastes some product, but you end up with a pointier tip rather than a flat tip, which I prefer.  But – the packaging is just SO UGLY – especially the cap! It’s silver and doesn’t go with the white and color at all – photo below.  It’s not a dealbreaker for me, but I really wish it had a clear, white, or colored cap.

The texture of these is much more akin to a lipstick than a lip pencil – it’s not at all similar to the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils, which are much dryer.  It actually has a sort of silicone-y feel – and I was able to completely remove the swatch from my arm by rubbing it off with a dry tissue, no makeup wipe or remover required.

Despite the creaminess, I actually found these slightly drying on my lips, which is quite unusual for me – I often wear very matte lip products that others find drying with no problems at all.  So, these may not be a good choice for those of you with dryer lips.  This particular shade lasted about two hours for me, which is not great, but not terrible for something so close to my lip color.

I would describe the color as a rosy neutral – just a little bit rosier than my lips but better. The finish is justly described as a velvety matte, it’s mostly matte but with a little bit of dimension and sheen, though no actually shine (and no shimmer at all).   It’s a good everyday type shade, but nothing particularly special on me.

Overall, this lip crayon is very “meh” for me – it’s a nice color, but not anything special. The formula is just barely acceptable, but not something I’m excited about.  There’s nothing wrong with this lip crayon, but it’s just not a great product for me.

Has anyone tried the SK Lip Crayons? Do you agree, or did you have a better experience with these?
