Hello there!

favorite freestyle palettes

I rearranged all my freestyle palettes. These are my two favorites.

Hi everyone. Wow, it’s been a while – apparently, I needed a break. And it seems that it’s not just me; I’ve been reading a lot of posts from other bloggers who are kind of burned out and/or shifting what they are choosing to blog about.

My makeup-purchasing habits have changed significantly in the last few months of not-blogging. I have stopped buying makeup just because it’s new, and drastically cut down on my purchases overall. I’m trying to downsize my makeup stash, albeit not very successfully – I keep putting things in a box to give away or sell, then taking them out a week later.  I like this change. I don’t think I’ll ever be a makeup minimalist, but that’s okay – and there’s a lot of space between “minimalist” and “buy ALL the things!”.

KGD Aqua foundation - empty

I used up a whole bottle of foundation!

I am not really sure how often I’ll be blogging, or what I’ll be writing about. I do have some favorite items from the last few months that I hope to post about soon (but no promises).  In the meantime, here are a few recent(ish) pictures.

Maybelline Deep Forest Color Tattoo

I’ve been using this Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadow in my brows recently. I really like it; it has just the right amount of pigment for my (fairly full) eyebrows, and despite being greenish, it somehow looks very natural.

Gucci Tuscan Storm eyeshadow palette

I bought one item from the recent launch of Gucci Beauty – this is Tuscan Storm eyeshadow quad.

MUA Makeup Academy CVS

I was SO EXCITED to see MUA Makeup Academy brand items at CVS, and very disappointed to learn that they’re a completely different line than the same-name UK brand, despite having the same logo. I believe CVS licensed the brand name from the original company.

How have you been lately?

  • Ah, nice to see you back! Taking a minimalist approach isn’t easy, but it can definitely be a breath of fresh air. I’m not quite there yet 😉 That D&G shadow quad is lovely 🙂

  • MakeupWithdrawal

😀 I can’t wait for your review of the new Gucci! I just tried that KGD foundation and fell in love with it.

  • Bellyhead

It’s YOU! <3 I'm so glad to see your post. Whatever you post, here I will be reading.

  • Welcome back! I took an unintentional break during the month of November because of a writing project but I just got back into blogging, too. Hope you’re doing well and glad to hear that you’re finding a routine that works for you with your makeup. 🙂 I still buy a lot, but I guess my revelation over the past week is that I really like MAC lipsticks, and they release collections nonstop, so…I don’t really want to try other lipsticks out like I used to, new or not. I’ll see how that goes!

    • Focusing on MAC lipsticks makes a lot of sense if they are your favorite – they have pretty much every color, and so many new & LE ones all the time. I sort of wish that I was brand-loyal (since it would make it easier to focus my collection), but I just like trying allll the things.

  • Hey Emi!!! You’re back! Haai 🙂 I’d love to read more about these. It’s very intriguing that you’re able to use the color tattoo for your brows. The green makes sense tho. I’ve been told that there is green in EVERYBODY’S eyebrows. If you look at for example Suqqu, Anastasia, or Hourglass, you can always find something greenish in the shades they do as well! I think that’s why those brow products are good!

    • Hi Sunny! Putting a post together on using that color tattoo for brows is definitely on my to-do list. I think the reason it works so well on me may be both that lots of people have green in their brows + I have greenish undertones, so I may have more than some others.

  • Welcome back! I second Belly, we’ll be reading whatever you choose to post about. I’ve been hearing about using the Color Tattoos as a brow product recently, I have the taupe one and now I want to try it as well!

    • Thank you 🙂 I tried the Tough as Taupe color tattoo on my brows, but it pulls noticeably purple on me. I’ve seen it look really good on others, though!

  • wawaaahhht that would be so confusing (re: the MUA)

  • Lyn (Cheap As F*ck)

So good to hear from you again!

  • Kaley

The palette to the right in the first photo is stunning! What are those shadows!?

    • The top row & bottom row are Rouge Bunny Rouge, and the middle row are MAC. Let me know if you want any specific shade names 🙂

      • BooBooNinja

Could you give the names for everything in those freestyle palettes?

        • Sure! The four big ones in the matte palette are Inglot 353 (ivory), 349 (greyish) 342 (brownish), and 363 (purpleish). I have swatches of those four here: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JDA0SCqzng8/T_jPmLV68KI/AAAAAAAADDg/nHLUfxBUrDk/s640/IMG_7239.JPG

The three rectangular mattes in that palette are from the Smashbox Softbox palette from quite a while back. The black is Wet n Wild Panther (depotted).

The round shadows in the other palette are as follows:
Top row, left to right – RBR Solstice Halcyon, MAC Moth Brown (I think – not 100% sure), RBR Delicate Hummingbird. Middle row is MAC Era, MAC Patina, MAC Sumptuous Olive. 3rd row is RBR Bohemian Waxwing, RBR Olive Violetear, RBR Abyssinian Catbird.

          • BooBooNinja

I adore the palette with the round shadows. It’s gorgeous! Thanks for taking the time to post the names.

          • Thank you, and glad to help 🙂
