Sinful Colors has released two new collections – Sail La Vie, which has five new shades, and Pool Side Polish, which has three new shades (counting one as new that seems to have been previously released in France, but not in the US). I found both at Walgreens earlier today.

This post is very photo-heavy!

Sail La Vie has the following shades:

*Out of this World – core
*Sail La Vie – new
*New Wave – new
*Snow Me White – core
*Anchors Away – new
*Into the Blue - new
*Cross My Heart – new or repromote; not sure
*My Buoyfriend – new

Out of This World // Sail La Vie

Here’s a comparison of the four blue shades in Sail La Vie:

Into The Blue // New Wave // My Buoyfriend // Sail La Vie

Moving on to the next collection -

Pool Side Polish has the following shades:

*Why Not – core
*24/7 – core
*Tokyo Pearl – core or repromote; not sure
*Sunburnt – new to the US
*Rise & Shine – core
*Bikini Lines – new (Bikini is a core shade)
*Endless Blue – core
*Tidal Wave – new

Note: when I searched for Sunburnt, I found only this post – which has a lovely swatch. It looks like the polish has been released before in France, but not in the US.

I haven’t purchased any of the shades from either collection yet, but I’m thinking of getting all four blues from Sail La Vie and Sunburst from Pool Side Polish. I also highly recommend Rise & Shine (swatch) and Endless Blue (swatch) – they’re two of my favorite Sinful Colors core shades.

Today I have a quick review (and comparison) of Sally Hansen’s new, limited edition Sugar Coat textured nail polish line. I purchased just one shade from the line – Lick-o-rich, which is black. The Sugar Coat polishes remind me of Milani’s Textured Creams; both the Sally Hansen and the Milani textured polishes are creme finishes with no shimmer or sparkle.

There are eight shades in the Sugar Coat lineup:

Razzleberry // Bubble Plum // Sweetie // Lick-o-rich // Sugar Fix // Sour Apple // Cotton Candies // Cherry Drop

Razzleberry is bright blue; Bubble Plum is pinky-purple (more purple than it appears here). Sweetie is bright yellow; Lick-o-rich is black and Sugar Fix is white. Sour Apple is mint green; Cotton Candies is pink, and Cherry Drop is red.

These polishes are very highly textured – much more textured than any other polish I have tried (Zoya Pixiedust, OPI Liquid Sand, Milani Textured Cream, LA Girl Sandblast, or Nails, Inc. Leather Finish). Milani is the second most textured and Nails, Inc. the least textured.

Here’s a comparison of Nails, Inc. Leather Finish in Noho (reviewed here) & Sally Hansen Lick-o-rich, the two black textured polishes I own:

Nails, Inc Noho Leather Finish // Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Lick-o-rich

It’s clear from the photo how different the texture levels are! I personally prefer the Nails, Inc. slightly-textured finish – the Sally Hansen finish is just too rough for me – but opinions will of course, vary.

Overall, these are okay. There are some nice colors, and the price point is great, but they are just a bit too textured for me!

Purchased

All Yarned Up // Tight Knight // Fuzz Sea // Tweedy

Earlier this week, I found an end cap display at CVS with two new lines of Sally Hansen polishes – Fuzzy Coat, which is a short bar glitter polish, and Sugar Coat, a textured polish. There are eight shades of each, and I’ll have a swatch & review of Sugar Coat in a separate post.

I purchased just one Fuzzy Coat polish at first, but I liked it so much I went back to get three more. Here are nail wheel swatches of the four I own:

All Yarned Up: one coat, three coats

All Yarned Up is the only one with three colors: blue, yellow, and orange. In all the nail wheel swatches, I’ve done one coat on the left and three coats on the right. No topcoat over the one-coat swatches; topcoat over the three coat swatches, which were slightly bumpy. You can see that one coat leaves evenly dispersed glitter, and three coats is almost – but not quite – full coverage.

Tight Knit: one coat, three coats

Tight Knit has white and royal blue.

Fuzz-Sea: one coat, three coats

Fuzz-Sea has a yellowy-green and a medium blue.

Tweedy: one coat, three coats

Tweedy is black & white.

The four I did not purchase:

Peach Fuzz

Peach Fuzz is yellow and orange.

Fuzzy Fantasy

Fuzzy Fantasy is light green and white.

Wool Knot

Wool Knot is medium bright blue and white.

Wool Lite

Wool Lite is all one color – pink.

Here are some layering combinations I liked:

From left to right, that’s Tight Knit over a black creme, Fuzz-Sea over Pure Ice Free Spirit, and All Yarned Up over Illamasqua Jo’mina.

I’ve worn two of the Fuzzy Coats thus far:

Fuzz-Sea over Color Club Wild Cactus

Tight Knit over Black Creme

The brush shape and size (medium – not small or large) works very well with the consistency of the polish, which is thicker than a creme, but quite reasonable for a glitter. The polishes all applied evenly and smoothly.

Fuzzy Coat (and Sugar Coat) polishes sell for $5.99 at my CVS, but with a combination of some $2 off coupons I had been saving and CVS’s sale this week – $5 extra bucks on a $10 Sally Hansen purchase – I got my polishes for significantly less.

Overall, these are a hit! I really like them, and would recommend them, especially if you can get them on sale. Note that when I went back to buy more, the display was almost empty; I actually ended up going to another CVS to buy my additional polishes. However, I believe these are a new permanent product (the Sugar Coat display said “limited edition” and the Fuzzy Coat display did not), so if you can’t find a temporary display, they should show up in they permanent display at some point.

I have plenty of foundations I love, but I’m always on the hunt for the latest & greatest. After reading this post on Will Work for Makeup about Tiffany’s foundation wardrobe, I decided to pick up a sample of Make Up For Ever’s Face & Body foundation. Three or four trials later, I knew a bottle would be mine!

A note about price: at $40 for 1.69oz, Face & Body actually works out to be less expensive per ounce than most mid/high end foundations, since most foundations come in a 1oz bottle. Face & Body is about $24/oz, though due to the consistency I do find that I use slightly more of it than of other foundations per application.

MUFE Face & Body Ivory 20

Speaking of the consistency, it’s a bit hard to describe – it’s completely different than any other foundation I have tried. MUFE Face & Body is sort of a watery gel, and it blends down to a very natural finish – I can’t detect it on my skin at all once fully blended. It has light to medium buildable coverage; one thin layer is light coverage, but it’s easy to apply multiple layers to get to medium coverage.

For the curious, MAC Face & Body is totally different. MAC Face & Body has a very different feel – more watery (not gel-like at all). It has a tendency to separate over time (the pigment begins to appear as grains in the foundation) – this does not affect performance, however. The MAC version is very sheer: very light coverage at one layer, and buildable to light coverage. MAC’s finish is similar to the MUFE’s – very natural and skin like. I have heard that MUFE’s version is longer lasting on many, but I find it difficult to tell the difference because MAC’s version is so sheer that I can’t tell when it’s gone. I have samples of MAC Face & Body, but no interest in buying the full size; it’s simply too sheer for me.

No makeup // MUFE F&B Ivory 20

Above, I’m wearing no makeup (just moisturizer) on the left, and MUFE Face & Body in Ivory 20 on the right. The lighting is slightly different (sorry!), but you can that it cover my surface redness quite well, especially on and around the nose area. However, the texture of my skin and the faint freckles on my cheeks show through, which gives a very natural finish. I like to pair this foundation with Koh Gen Doh Maifanshi Color Base in yellow (reviewed here) – together, they cut down redness even more and give a very smooth but natural finish.

Overall, I am loving this foundation, and it’s become my go-to foundation for occasions when I don’t want SPF or when I want a sheer foundation; I use it a couple times a week. The rest of the time, I tend to reach for Missha Perfect BB Cream – it’s been a while since I’ve worn any foundation other than the Missha or the MUFE!

What are your go-to foundations these days?

Blue Hawaiian // Bahama Mama // Oasis Orange

Covergirl has just released many new products, and the first one I have a review of are the Outlast Stay Brilliant Glosstinis, which are mini nail polishes. First, a size comparison with the regular Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail polishes:

The regular Outlast polishes are on the small side, at only 11ml. Polish sizes vary, but here are some examples for reference:

Orly: 18ml
OPI, Zoya, Sinful Colors: 15ml
China Glaze: 14ml
WnW Megalast & Fast Dry: 13.5ml
Covergirl Outlast: 11ml
Zoya mini: 7.5ml
Maybelline Colorshow, Color Club mini: 7ml
Essie mini: 5ml
OPI mini: 3.75 ml
Covergirl Glosstini: 3.5ml

I think this demonstrates how very tiny the Covergirl Glosstinis are! And, as a side note – I hadn’t realized how small the Maybelline Colorshow polishes were; the bottles don’t look tiny, but they really don’t hold much polish at all. Prices generally vary by region, but at my CVS they were $3.79 for one or $3.33 if you bought three or more.

I have six of the regular Outlast polishes and all are good quality. I expected these polishes to be the same (just in smaller bottles), but I was disappointed to find that both of the creme finish polishes I bought, Blue Hawaiian and Oasis Orange, were thick, streaky, difficult to work with, and somehow managed to be sheer on the nail at the same time. Bahama Mama, which has silver shimmer, had a thinner consistency and was easier to work with, but was still a bit streaky and sheer.

Blue Hawaiian // Bahama Mama // Oasis Orange

Two thick coats look fine on swatch sticks, but on my nail, the polishes did not work well. Here’s three coats of Oasis Orange:

Oasis Orange – three coats

If you look carefully, you can see that it’s streaky and uneven. Note that it’s still somewhat wet in the picture – I was too impatient to let three coats dry fully, and I knew I wasn’t going to keep it on my nails due to the streakiness. I’m willing to put up with a difficult formula for a really great color (especially at a great price), but I have half a dozen orange cremes and a couple of them have perfect one-coat formulas as well.

I don’t have nail swatches of the other two at the moment, but the performance of Blue Hawaiian was identical to Oasis Orange. Bahama Mama was much better – it was easier to apply and looked good after three coats.

So, overall, I’d recommend staying with Covergirl’s regular Outlast polish line; the formula and the brush seem more consistent and better, and it’s a better value as well. I reswatched my Outlast polishes to double check that the formula of all of them is good (and it is) – so here are those swatches as a bonus!

285 mint mojito // 235 bronze beauty // 280 amethyst // 210 non-stop stone //
130 natural blush // 185 forever festive

Covergirl has just released several new products, and (hidden in the back of my CVS), I found a display with most of them!

On the left side of the display is the new Flamed Out Max Volume mascara; from the package, it looks like it has a traditional style brush, which is not usually my preference these days, so I’m not planning to pick it up. I saw a couple different colors, ranging from brown-black to black to very black.

On the upper left are several new Flamed Out Shadow Pots. This display only has six neutral colors, but there are at least twelve colors in the range. Nouveau Cheap fantastic photos (though no swatches yet) of each shade here.

On the upper right are Flamed Out Shadow Pencils. Again, this display only has some of the colors, but in the Nouveau Cheap post I linked above, you can see that there are ten colors of shadow pencil in the display.

On the lower left we have mini nail polishes; Outlast Glosstinis (the regular Covergirl polishes are just called Outlast polishes). I puchased three of the Glosstinis, and will have a review of them up for you later today.

The regular sized Outlast polishes are 11ml and the Glosstinis are a tiny 3.5 ml. For reference, both OPI and Sinful Colors polishes are 15ml each, a mini Essie is 5 ml, and a mini OPI is 3.75 ml

And finally, we have the Lipslick Smoochies, which (in my opinion) have very unattractive packaging; so much so that even though I wanted to try one out, I couldn’t bring myself to buy one.

Plum Velour // Berry Couture // Fuchsia Shock // Lovers Coral // Honey Bare // Terra Copper

Earlier, I posted about the new Revlon display I found with Color & Shine Super Lustrous Lipsticks – a new formula. I said I had purchased three of the lipsticks; but I liked them so much that after swatching, I went back and bought three more! (Revlon is 40% off at Rite Aid this week, which helps.)

Plum Velour // Berry Couture // Fuchsia Shock // Lovers Coral // Honey Bare // Terra Copper

All six of the lipsticks I purchased are slightly translucent, but pigmented enough to show up easily. They are slightly slick (but don’t feel overly slippery) and have a moderately glossy finish.

Plum Velour

Plum Velour is my favorite; a purple toned berry. It’s not the same as Dior Addict Extreme in Black Tie, but it’s quite similar.

Berry Couture

Berry Couture is a medium purple that transforms into a more berry shade on my lips; I like it, but it makes my teeth look SO yellow.

Fuchsia Shock

Fuchsia Shock is a clear, bright pink. Because it’s sheer, it’s a great way to ease in to wearing a bright color.

Lovers Coral

Lovers [sic] Coral is, well, Coral. This one was a bit more sheer than the others.

Honey Bare

Honey Bare is a nude – it’s very wearable since it’s sheer and not too pale.

Terra Copper

Terra Copper has a very fine shimmer (the others are all shimmer-free). It’s brown on my arm, but has a hint of red on my lips; still definitely out of my comfort zone! I purchased it hoping it would be more reddish-brown. I don’t see myself wearing this shade alone, but I do really like it layered with a sheer red.

Overall, I am really enjoying these lipsticks. The texture and pigmentation level is great, and just what I have been looking for these days. If you’re looking for a sheer, but pigmented, lipstick at the drugstore, I’d definitely recommend these.

Today at Rite Aid I spotted a display with a new formula of Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks and new packaging for Revlon Super Lustrous lipglosses (formerly in rectangular packaging), and new shades of both! Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipstick previously came in creme, pearl, and matte finishes. All 10 of the new lipsticks have a “Shine” finish, as labeled on the botton of the tube, and none appear to have shimmer (the lipstick lids have a clear top – they are thankfully shrinkwrapped!).

The new lipstick shades are, top to bottom on the display:

- Rich Girl Red
- Pink Cognito
- Berry Couture
- Fuchsia Shock
- Kissable Pink
- Honey Bare
- Pink Cloud
- Lovers Coral
- Plum Velour
- Terra Copper.

I didn’t get the names of the lipglosses. About half of of them have no shimmer, and about half have a glass fleck finish. I didn’t get the name of this one (sorry!), but here’s a photo of a glass-fleck-finish one.

I purchased three of the lipsticks and one lipgloss, and I’ll be reviewing them soon!

When I purchased my Burberry Lip Mist sample card (reviewed here), I also picked up a Lip Cover sample card. These are actually not intended to be purchased – they’re supposed to be given away free at counters – but they’re worth the purchase for me, especially since each sample is good for multiple applications.

The Lip Cover Soft Satin Lipsticks are described as having a “super-light ‘second skin’ texture [that] provides intense moisture immediately after application.” I like the texture – it is indeed lightweight and moisturizing, though I don’t think I would go so far as to say it’s intensely moisturizing.

Nude Beige // Rosewood // Blush // Brick Red

Burberry Nude Beige

Nude Beige is an extremely pale beige; too pale for my coloring and preferences. It applies evenly and smoothly, which is not always the case with such pale shades.

Burberry Rosewood

Rosewood is the only shade of the four samples that has shimmer. The shimmer is subtle, but more noticeable in person than in the photo. A lot of people really love this shade, but I am not one of them; I just don’t like this type of shimmer in my lip products.

Burberry Blush

This is gorgeous. I rarely wear pink lipsticks, but I’d make an exception for Blush Lip Cover! You can see what Burberry means when they describe this formula as a “second skin” lip color – it hugs the lips closely, and the texture of my lips is still visible with it on (though improved!).

Burberry Brick Red

And my favorite is of course the red! Brick Red is a deep, brown-toned red; again you can easily see the second-skin texture clearly in the photo.

Overall, these are really lovely lipsticks, and based on quality alone, I would recommend them without reservation. They are $30 each, which I know is more than many of you spend on lipstick, but is also on the reasonable end for a luxury-brand lipstick. However, I do prefer the texture of the Lip Mist lipsticks – especially Blueberry & Rosy Red – so if I were going to purchase just one Burberry lipstick myself, that’s what I would go for.
