Birchbox Review, and Sample Boxes Generally

Birchbox – July

I’ve long been against sample boxes – why spend $10 (or more) a month on unknown samples, when you can save your money and buy the exact product you want with the savings?

But recently, Birchbox changed my mind, and here’s why.

First – Birchbox has excellent customer service. This isn’t a reason (by itself) to subscribe, of course, but

Second – and this is why it’s worth it – Birchbox’s review system gives you points for reviewing the items you receive in your box. The review is just a short survey that you fill out; it takes about 30 seconds per item, and you get 10 points per item.  10 points is worth $1.  The two boxes I have received thus far have had six items each; reviewing each item thus gives me 60 points, worth $6.

Thus, the $10 Birchbox’s cost is, in a certain sense, $4 – and the points can be used to purchase full-sized makeup, skincare, and other beauty items from Birchbox’s website.

Birchbox – June

If you are interested in joining Birchbox, I would love it if you used my referral link – using it gives me 50 points if you join: click here! Of course, you can also join Birchbox without my referral link at

This is a scheduled post as I’m currently in Las Vegas! I am reasonably sure that I’ll have internet to moderate and respond to comments, though I may be slower than usual.
