Wet n Wild Salsa Lessons 369S MegaShield Lip Color Review, Swatches, Photos

Wet n Wild recently came out with a new line of lipsticks – the MegaShield lipsticks. Today, I have the color Salsa Lessons for you!

As other bloggers have written, the packaging on the MegaShield lipsticks is slightly annoying. I appreciate that they are sealed, but they are very, very sealed – in a way that leaves sticky residue on the packaging once you get all the labels off.  Once you’ve dealt with opening the lipstick, the packaging is very typical of Wet n Wild: it looks and feels cheap, but it’s fully functional.  Since these are very inexpensive (around $3), I don’t have a problem with the cheapness of the packaging.

The MegaShield lipsticks are advertised as having sheer-to-moderate coverage, but I found that Salsa Lessons is actually a full coverage lipstick with a glossy finish.  They’re very slick, and I managed to get some on my teeth while applying, which is something that rarely happens for me.  I love how the glossy finish looks, but the feel of these is a little too slippery for my personal preference.

Salsa Lessons is an orange based red – I’d call it a tomato red. It’s a really great color, and it has a creme finish.  Note that the MegaShield lipsticks are a mixture of creme and frost/shimmer finishes.

As you can see, Salsa Lessons doesn’t read as a true red on me – it’s much softer. However, this happens with a lot of red lipsticks on me.  Pink based red lipsticks pull pink, orange based red lipsticks just don’t look that red.  It’s only blue based, deep red lipsticks that really read as RED on my particular coloring.

Overall, I would recommend this lipstick with some reservations. It’s a great color, and you may love the glossy finish – but it’s a little too slick for my tastes. Then again, matte lipsticks are my favorite! But, for the price? It’s definitely worth a try!
