Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains: Quick Review & Swatches

Purchased – No Affiliate Links

Hello! I am in DC visiting my best friend K. and we happened across a display of the new Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains at Target (which will be permanent).   We each purchased one, and I have swatches and a quick review for you.  Please note that these are all iPhone photos; I didn’t bring my camera with me.

I purchased the shade New York Scene, a neutral red, and my friend purchased Barcelona Nights, a hot pink / fuchsia.  These are two of the brighter shades in the range, so please note that the lasting power, evenness, etc may be different for the more muted shades.

New York Scene // Barcelona Nights

The texture of the Moisture Stains is hard to describe – it’s sort of a smooth gel with a slightly cooling sensation on the lips.  They are not hydrating, but not drying either.  We found that both shades applied evenly, and lasted quite well through drinks.  The Moisture Stains apply slightly glossy, but quickly dry to more of a stain finish.

K. says the only major downside is the smell (which I didn’t notice); she describes it as a chemical-y scent, but fades one that fades relatively quickly, and not a dealbreaker.  She also noted that there’s a slight settling into lip lines after a few hours, but was impressed with the lasting power.

New York Scene (on me)

Overall, I really like these so far and think they are a great addition to Revlon’s lineup! I’ll need to wear them more to form a final opinion, but thus far, I would recommend them.

I am SO curious about these! Hoping they show up here soon. 🙂

  • I want to try one of these for sure! They sound kind of awesome!

  • Glad these are permanent, as I gave up buying new lipsticks for the rest of the year! These sound really promising 🙂

I like the pink one. It looks good on you and not like lipstick, more like tinted gloss.

Have you tried the Maybelline gloss stains? They are a bit older… but I really love them! They are a lightweight formula, not sticky, and are super build-able. I wonder how they compare to these. Thanks for the review!

    • I haven’t tried the Maybelline ones, but I do like the L’oreal stain glosses (and YSLs). These are somewhat similar to those two, but more similar to Wet n Wild’s new Vicious Varnish stain glosses.

  • SO pretty!!

I love these. I have Milan Moment and the New York Scene. Most glosses feel distracting, obvious to me, but these are wonderful. I suspect these are glosses that a gloss-hater would love.

  • This comment is coming in SUPER late, but these look great! I keep hearing such lovely things about them — and New York Scene is a total stunner on you. I could never pull off a glossy red that easily 😉
