Nail Polish Comparisons & Swatches: Red, Orange, Pink

Pink, Orange & Red nail polish swatch sticks

Here’s the start of the series of posts of my nail polish collection! I’m going to start with the rainbow (which includes creme, jelly, shimmer, and glass fleck finishes), then I’ll do special finishes (holo, duochrome, glitter, magnetic, etc).
Most swatches are two coats; the swatch sticks are labeled with the number of coats if they don’t have two, so if you’re curious about a particular shade, ask, and I’d be happy to look it up for you.  None of the swatch sticks in this post have topcoat.  I think most of the abbreviations are self-evident, but ask if you aren’t sure.I had a little trouble figuring out the best way to photograph these; in the future I may try to include the handle of the swatch stick so you can see the shade name with the swatch – for now, I’ve numbered the shade name in the caption so that you can count (starting from the left) to the appropriate swatch.

Click to enlarge the photos; I left these a bit larger than usual in case you would like to see them closer-up.First, deep red/purples – WnW Under Your Spell and Maybelline Auburn Ablaze are dupes; the others in this photo are not, the differences just didn’t show up well on camera.

Swatches - 1 - Wet n Wild Megalast Under Your Spell; 2 - Maybelline Auburn Ablaze, 3 - OPI Black Cherry Chutney, 4 - Wet n Wild Megalast Lethal Injection, 5- NYC Manhattan

Reds: SH Red Zin, Zoya Alix, and the Sally Girl are dupes – they all have a jelly finish. Illamasqua Throb is a cream (and a one-coater), Kleancolor red is brighter, and the WnW is the lightest and brighest.

Bright oranges are my favorites! There are minute differences between the first six shades, but they are very similar. The two neons are half over white; in person the white makes them a LOT brighter than over the clear, but it doesn’t show up well on camera.

swatches - 1- Revlon Colorstay Delicious, 2- Revlon Craving Coral, 3- Sally Girl Unknown, 4- Illamasqua Whack, 5- OPI A Roll In The Hague, 6- Essence Wake Up!, 7- Fingerpaints Iconic Orance (Neon), 8- China Glaze Surfin' for Boys (Neon)

Medium oranges, glass fleck oranges, and moving in to pink.

swatches - 1- Kleancolor Mango, 2- Sinful Colors Clementine, 3- OPI Y'all Come Back Ya Hear?, 4- China Glaze Riveting, 5- Zoya Myrta, 6- NYC Peach Sparkle, 7- Revlon Just Tinted Dawn

Pink is my least favorite nail polish color – but I adore Illamasqua Collide, which I don’t think is labeled as neon, but seems quite neon to me.  Some reds snuck in this photo.

swatches - 1- Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Lava, 2- WnW Chrome Precious Petals, 3- Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Ruby Stilettos, 4- L'oreal The Queen's Might, 5- Zoya Kimber, 6- Sinful Colors Boom Boom, 7- Illamasqua Collide, 8- JLB 06

And finally, some red based purples; I had set these aside to put with the purples, but decided they fit better here since the rest of my purples are more blue-based.  Zoya Paloma and OPI Houston We Have A Purple are almost dupes – the OPI is a touch more opaque.

That’s it for the first installment! I’m going to try and spread these out a bit so as to not be too overwhelming.  Let me know if you have any questions, and please let me know how this format works and if you have any suggestions!
