Maybelline Summer 2013 Duochrome Color Tattoos: Swatches & Quick Review

Purchased

Top: Waves of White // Blue Paradise
Bottom: Cool Crush // Seashore Frosts

Among the many new limited edition items Maybelline has just released for Summer 2013 items are eight LE color tattoo eyeshadows. I purchased the four shades that appear to be duochromes.

Maybelline Waves of White

Waves of White is white with a very strong blue iridescence when applied.

Maybelline Cool Crush

Cool Crush appears to be pale blue with a pink shift in the pot, but is more of a sparkling blue-lavender when applied.

Maybelline Blue Paradise

Blue Paradise appears to be medium blue with a slight pink shift in the pot, but is blue with blue iridescence when applied.

Maybelline Seashore Frosts

Seashore Frosts is the strongest duochrome; on me, it’s a greenish-grey with a strong pink iridescence, though I’ve seen other swatches where it appears more blue.

Maybelline Summer 2013 Duochrome Color Tattoos Swatches

Waves of White // Cool Crush // Blue Paradise // Seashore Frosts – blurred to show sparkle

I just bought these today so I haven’t tried them out yet on my eyes. That said, they have the slippery texture that most of Maybelline’s shimmery Color Tattoos have (rather than the stiffer, dryer texture of the mattes).   Waves of White seems and Cool Crush are on the sheer side, while and Blue Paradise and Seashore Frosts are about average for Maybelline Color Tattoo formula, which I am never able to build to opacity.

Will you be looking for any of these, or any of the other LE Maybelline summer products?

  • Seashore Frost is quite a special color! Would love to know how it performs on the lid!

  • Hiya – all the Rite Aid stores near me (and there are a lot of them) seem to have the display with the six color tattoos – I’m in Hollywood near Silverlake. The only place I’ve seen the display with the two color tattoos is Ulta – it was the one in West Hollywood, and they had just put it out. There’s no BBB near me that has makeup, actually!

  • I seem to live in an area that gets drugstore collections pretty early, which is quite lucky for me / the blog!

  • Seashore Frosts looks amazing! Can’t wait to hear how these perform on the lid! It’s great to see a drugstore brand doing shift shadows!

I wonder what their staying power is. review please if you have time 🙂

    • Hi Anu! I’ve tested several of the Color Tattoos for weartime before, and I find that on me, they last all day (crease-free) as a base, with either powder eyeshadow on top or dusted with translucent powder if I don’t want any additional color. I tend to wear them in thin layers, because thicker layers often get patchy. However, I’ve read a lot of reviews for Color Tattoos, and it seems like wear time varies a lot – some people never have creasing (or fading), some people need to wear a primer under them to prevent creasing, and some people have creasing no matter what. There’s something in the formula that just seems to vary a lot person-to-person. Hope that helps!

  • these look amazing! and sort of remind me of Vex by mac.
