IMATS Los Angeles, a huge makeup trade show, was last weekend.  Today, I have a recap for you of the show.

I’m going to tell the story in pictures, so this is very pic-heavy.

OCC at IMATS 2014

So much makeup! Clockwise from top left: Inglot, not sure , OCC, LA Girl

NYX at IMATS 2014

NYX booth before the doors opened – it was HUGE – you can see two of the four sides.

Besame at IMATS 2014

Besame Cosmetics – I didn’t have time to really check it out, but they have a store in Burbank which I’m going to visit soon.

IMATS 2014 Kaoir

Ka’oir – such gorgeous lipstick colors

makeupgeek IMATS

One of the best things about IMATS is getting to check out online-only brands in person. However, they tend to have extremely long lines. Makeup Geek, Sugarpill, and Sigma were all at IMATS, but I couldn’t brave the lines!

IMATS 2014

I only attended one class – As Pretty as a Drag Queen: Understanding and Applying Drag Techniques – taught by Courtney Tichman, the global brand manager and lead make-up artist for OCC. The model is Deven Green, the face of Plastic Passion.

The special effects makeup / bodypainting was amazing.

PURCHASES:

2014 IMATS Haul

Almost but not quite everything

MAC Masterclass brush Oval 3 (sadly no discount, but I have been wanting to check it out).

MAC Strobe Cream (MAC was 20% off for non-pros)

Cinema Secrets brush cleanser. It is some kind of super strong solvent, so I don’t trust it on my nicer brushes, but it’s FANTASTIC for my cheap lip brushes.

Face Atelier Ultra Foundation

City Color pure silica powder. It’s really nice to be able to test out the drugstore brands that usually don’t have testers.

OCC Rollergirl lip tar

I was very restrained at Hakuhodo – only two brushes. The G5523 is supposedly a MAC 217 dupe but softer, and the G5515 is the tinest pencil brush ever – this is a second one, because I use it almost every day.

A few NYX items, including the new Butter Lipstick in Licorice and the new Butter Gloss shade Devil’s Food Cake.

Some inexpensive powder puffs / nail art brushes / brushes from Crown Brush.

A glitter liner and cream shadow from LA Splash – both gorgeous!

Reviews of all my purchases will be posted eventually; please let me know if there’s something you want to know about sooner rather than later!

Have you been to a makeup trade show, IMATS or otherwise? Do you want to go to one someday?

*I received a press pass to attend IMATS, but purchased all items myself.

  • Hey Emi, ahhh this looks like fun! I’d go NUTS on Hakukodo brushes if I am ever near a stand 🙂

    • I definitely went a bit nuts the first time I saw Haku brushes in person! This is the third show I’ve seen them at, and I have quite the collection now 🙂

  • Oops, you are right! I was going by memory, never a good idea 🙂

  • jessicamazing

I’m excited for your review of the nyx butter gloss and butter lipstick. Licorice is actually the shade I’ve been eying!

  • Jillian Wight

excited for the review on the new Butter Lipstick and Butter Gloss!

  • Lyn (Cheap As F*ck)

I’m interested in what you’re going to use the silica powder for. I’ve read that you can just use it as a setting/finishing powder and it’s basically the same as MUF or other more expensive powders, but I haven’t tried it myself.

  • I don’t own it, but I swatched them side by side at the show & have a poor quality picture here: https://project-swatch.com/?attachment_id=4788 Rollergirl is on the left and Hoochie is on the right – it’s a lot pinker.

  • I bought several brushes the first time I saw Haku at a show, I have a nice sized collection now though so it’s easier to be more restrained.

I haven’t tried Parisian Spirit, but I bet the CS is just as strong – it basically dissolves all makeup immediately, including things like eyeliner & lipstick.

  • I’m curious if the Cinema Secrets cleanser is similar to Parian Spirit (which I hated…) I’m always on the hunt for a better and faster method to clean all my brushes

  • Sadly it seems to settle into my pores to some degree, but I’m working on figuring out an application method that works for me. Full review eventually for sure!
