Project Swatch #15: Peachy Pinks – Comparisons & Swatches

Today, I’m going to swatch and review all my eyeshadows that look either peach or pink in the pan for you.  As you can see, many of them look more champagne when swatched.

First off, we have Flow from the Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Palette. This shadow looks like a peach in the pan, and is a little bit frosty when swatched. It has a really nice texture, very smooth.

Second, we have the peachy-pink from the Sleek Original palette. Texturewise, this one is a little bit too soft, if anything – the softness makes it prone to crumbling in the pan a little bit, making it hard to work with.

Next up, two Wet n Wild pinks, from two Wet n Wild trios.

The browbone shade from Silent Treatment is soft peachy pink – it doesn’t show up well on me, but that’s just due to the shade, not the pigmentation. The texture is good – nothing particularly special, but good.

The eyelid shade from Sweet as Candy is more of a true pink, and quite shimmery/frosty.  I really can’t see myself using this shade, but it is pigmented and easy to work with.

Then, we have Sin from the Urban Decay Naked Palette.  This is a very pale pink in the pan, more champagne when swatched, and a little bit frosty. This was a pleasure to swatch – so soft, pigmented, and smooth.

And finally, one of the shadows from the Smashbox Softbox palette.  I’ve depotted my Softbox palette – it was bulky, plus it was cardboard so easy to depot (I could cut out the shadows, no heat required).  If you’d like to see what the Softbox palette used to look like, Makeup and Beauty Blog has a great photo here.  The shade I swached today is Sugar. This shade is gorgeous – a pink that reflects gold.  The texture is pretty average – easy to use, but nothing special.

Project Swatch #14: True Pink Eyeshadow Swatches & Comparison

Moving on from the distinct colors to the semi-neutrals, I have many pinks – some bright and vibrant, some moving into the soft neutrals. In today’s shoot, I included all the shadows that appear pink or peach in the pan.

Since I have too many shadows to fit comfortably into one photo, I divided them up into two groups: first, we have the true pinks, where the swatch is actually pink, and second the peachy pinks, where the swatch looks more peach or champagne.  Since it’s so photo-heavy, I’ve divided it into two posts. I’ll post the peachy-pinks tomorrow.

First off – the true pinks, ranging from soft pastels to vibrant in-your-face! As always, everything is swatched over bare skin.

The first two shades are from Wet n Wild trios.

As you can see from the swatches, both have good pigmentation, though We’re Blasting Off is a little bit chalky.  I don’t wear pastel pink – either matte or shimmer – often, so neither of these shades get much wear from me.

Next are two shades from Urban Decay’s 15th Anniversary Palette, Tainted and Junkshow.

Both are incredibly gorgeous. Tainted in particular is hard to capture on camera – it has a really pretty golden sheen.  I felt like Junkshow – although SO beautiful – was the tiniest bit stiff.

And finally, we have the pink from the Sleek Original Palette – it’s on the bottom, second from the left

This pink is has a really nice, soft texture, and I really like the color – it reflects gold. I plan to wear this more in the future. I think it would make a nice lid color.

Project Swatch #13: Green Eyeshadow Swatches & Comparison

This will be short and sweet, because I only have three green eyeshadows – green just isn’t my color!

These are all swatched over bare skin.

First up, we have the green from the Wet n Wild Comfort Zone palette. I actually swatched two shades from the palette at first, the true green and the shade below it, but decided that the lower shade was really a brown, so it’s going to be swatched later with the browns.

This green has a really soft, smooth texture.  As you can see, it’s a soft, golden green – beautiful, though not something I wear often.

Next up, we have two greens from the Sleek Original Palette.

The middle swatch is from the upper right hand corner, and it’s a true green.  The texture is pretty average – the shadow is a little bit hard, but the payoff is good.

The second shadow, from the lower right hand corner, is incredible. The shade, a soft olive green, is beautiful, and the texture is incredible – soft, buttery, with great pigmentation and payoff. I am so pleased to have rediscovered this shadow – I can see myself wearing this particular shade frequently, due to the beautiful color and wonderful quality.

Tomorrow: Pink!

Project Swatch #11: Purple Eyeshadow Swatches & Comparison

Next up, my purples! Although I’m more of a neutral girl, if I do wear color it tends to be purple – in fact, the eyeshadow that made Urban Decay’s 15th Anniversary Palette a must-have for me was Half Truth, which is swatched below.

Swatched over bare skin

Inglot 377 is a gorgeous color, but the texture is a little bit chalky. It’s not very easy to work with, but I think it’s worth it for the color.  Sometimes I use it wet as liner.

From the 15th Anniversary Palette, we have Urban Decay Omen and Half Truth. Both are really high quality shadows – soft, smooth, and pigmented.  They also work really well together. I absolutely love Half Truth, but unfortunately I just couldn’t get the right color to show up on camera.

The purple from the Sleek Original palette is not up to par with the rest of the shadows in that palette. It’s not very pigmented; it took several swipes to get the color shown here. It’s a pretty color, but a bit of a pain to work with.

Even worse is the purple from Wet n Wild Dancing In The Clouds trio. It is very, very sheer – what you see is many layers. It’s a little better over an eyeshadow base, but not much better.

After swatching, photographing, editing, uploading, and writing the post, I realized I had one more purple in my stash – oops!

This is the purple from the upper right hand corner of the Wet n Wild Greed palette, shown here. It’s a very sheer purple – it took several swipes to get it to show up like this on my hand. It’s very uncharacteristic of Wet n Wild to put out a shadow this sheer! It does have a really nice gold sheen, and it’s soft. Due to the sheerness, I never use it – which is why I forgot about it in the first place!

Tomorrow: Green!

Project Swatch #10: Blue & Teal Eyeshadow Swatches & Comparison

Even though my eyeshadow stash is not huge, I have a lot of certain shades (hello neutrals!). So, I’ve decided to start with the easier posts – swatching my colors.

I have six blue eyeshadows.

Swatched over bare skin

The Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Palette contains two blue eyeshadows – first we have Evidence, which is a beautiful navy with a black base. Evidence is a good eyeshadow, but it’s not great. As you can see from the swatch, it’s not quite as smooth as the other blues I swatched.

Luckily, L’oreal Color Infallible Eyeshadow in Midnight Blue is a total dupe for Evidence, and it has an amazing texture – soft, smooth, buttery, perfect. I tend to use this as a eyeliner, and it works well.

Next we have three shades from the Sleek Original Palette – you can see a photo of the whole palette here.   There’s a black based navy, which is much darker than the previous two shades I discussed, a sky blue, and a teal. All three are excellent quality – soft and smooth, with great color payoff.

And finally, we have the star of this collection – the second shadow from Urban Decay’s 15th Anniversary Palette, Deep End. The texture of this eyeshadow is unbelievable – it is so pigmented, soft, smooth, and just perfect. The color is really rich. Until I did these swatches, I hadn’t realized just how awesome this shade was.

And that is all my blue eyeshadow! Stay tuned for purples, coming up next.
