NYC Precious Pink Sparkle Eye Dust Swatch & Quick Review

NYC Precious Pink Sparkle Eye Dust

NYC Precious Pink Sparkle Eye Dust

For my first post today, I have Precious Pink Sparkle Eye Dust from NYC’s new Let’s Paint the Town Collection.  Last night I thought it looked sort of sandy gold; it turns out that’s because the lighting in-store was so awful – it’s actually a lovely peachy pink.

For a full review of the packaging and formula of NYC’s recently repackaged Sparkle Eye Dust, please see this post.  This shade was smooth and pigmented – just as good as the shade swatched in that post.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this shade – inexpensive, high quality, and a gorgeous color!

As always, this is a swatch on unprimed skin.  I used my finger for this swatch instead of a sponge-tip applicator.  For a full review of NYC’s Sparkle eye dust, please see this post.

NYC Sparkle Eye Dust Review & Swatches

NYC Sparkle Eye Dust

NYC has recently added some new products to its lineup, and when I initially saw these Sparkle Eye Dusts, I thought they were new.  However, I soon realized that they weren’t a new product – this is the old product, and it will be familiar to you if you’ve examined an NYC display before:

I believe that all (or most) of the previously available colors are still available, and some new colors were added to the lineup. These are the currently available colors, as listed on the -->NYC website -->:

The new packaging is a tube with a doe-foot applicator. I found that it wasn’t possible to use the applicator directly on my eye – there was WAY too much fallout all over my face.  Instead, I used the doe foot applicator to tap some shadow on to the back of my hand, then applied from there. Here’s a close up of the applicator.

I purchased the shade Smokey Topaz, which is one of the original shades – I probably would have picked up one of the new shades if I had realized this, oh well! Smokey Topaz is a really lovely shade though – sort of a mauve taupe with a lovely shimmery (but not frosty!) finish.

Since this is a loose shadow, you could also use it wet, but it’s very pigmented dry.  I think it must have some type of binder in it, because it adheres to skin quite well without any base at all (as in the hand swatch above).  I tested it out on my eyes, and it applied well just over eyeshadow primer (no sticky base like Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxie was needed).  There was some fallout during application, but none during the day.

Finally, here’s a display shot – this is from CVS, which is the only place I’ve seen the new packaging – the Rite Aids in my area all still have the old displays with the old packaging. As you can see, this CVS doesn’t have all the colors listed on the NYC website.

Overall, I really liked the NYC Sparkle Eye Dust shadow – enough that I’m definitely going to go back for more! I found the packaging fairly convenient.  I did need to tap on to the back of my hand to apply, but the packaging prevented spills, which is great. The quality of the shadow is also very nice – pigmented, smooth and adheres well. A great, inexpensive choice!

Fyrinnae Loose Eyeshadow: Part Two — Swatches

Fyrinnae Mystical Hedgehog, Immortality, Witchy Woodland Creatures

This is the second part of my two-part Fyrinnae photos & swatchfest – the swatches! Part One, the photos of the eyeshadows in the jar, is here.

I normally swatch eyeshadow without any primer or base, but I find that loose eyeshadows don’t show up very well on bare skin.  So, I’ve swatched these two different ways; the first set of swatches (on the left in each photo) is over NYX HD primer, and the second set (on the right in each photo) is over Fyrinnae’s own Pixie Epoxie.  I found that the color shows up nicely over just primer, but the glitter needs a sticky base, like Pixie Epoxie, to adhere.

I’ve left these photos larger than usual to better show the complexity of the shades – please do click to enlarge, these eyeshadows are really lovely up close!

Full sun: Mystical Hedgehog, Cuddlefish, Immortality

I’m terrible at describing this type of complex color, so I’ve borrowed Fyrinnae’s own descriptions.

Mystical Hedgehog: Appears as a vibrant, shimmering purple with a turquoise-green highlight at a distance, but changes to a warmer purple to pink at an angle or close to light.

Cuddlefish: A vibrant violet, loaded with varying hues of purple and blue-violet sparkle.

Immortality: A rainbow of sparkle in soft black

Fyrinnae Witchy Woodland Creatures, Shenanigans, Book of the Dead

With flash: Witchy Woodland Creatures, Shenanigans, Book of the Dead

Full sun: Witchy Woodland Creatures, Shenanigans, Book of the Dead

Witchy Woodland Creatures: Glimmering, multi-faceted cocoa taupe. Shades of copper and silver, with hints of pink, gold, and green shimmer on a neutral taupe-brown base make this shadow suitable for a wide range of skintones.

Shenanigans: A rainbow of sparkle fills rich, metallic gold over a dark base

Book of the Dead: A slightly aged gleaming, sparkling beige-gold, fit for Osiris himself (we could hope!), graced with flashes of sparkle in varying hues. Neutral tone, not yellow.

Fyrinnae Koala, Kurisumasu!, Moon Child, Nijiro

With flash: Koala, Kurisumasu!, Moon Child, Nijiro

Full sun: Koala, Kurisumasu!, Moon Child, Nijiro

Koala: A medium rosy taupe, this shade has a satin finish.

Kurisumasu!: Versatile satiny rosy beige shade with subtle flashes of sparkle. Great for a highlight or all-over basic shade that can suit many skintones.

Moon Child: Soft glimmering ivory shade with just the right amount of shimmer and sparkle and a touch of coppery highlight.

Nijiro: Ivory with rainbow sparkles.

Fyrinnae products can only be purchased online. Fyrinnae usually has quite a long turn around time stated on their website, but I’ve ordered from them three times now, and my order has always shipped within a week or so.

I recently purchased eight Fyrinnae eyeshadow minis, and I have photos and swatches for you! Since the eyeshadows are so beautiful, I took close up photos of each individual shade.  This made the post very photo-heavy, so I’ve divided it into two parts; this post is just photos, and I’ll be posting the swatches shortly. (Part Two is here)

I took these photographs a while ago, but I think that I used flash for all of them, to better show the sparkle.
