Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains: Quick Review & Swatches

Purchased – No Affiliate Links

Hello! I am in DC visiting my best friend K. and we happened across a display of the new Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains at Target (which will be permanent).   We each purchased one, and I have swatches and a quick review for you.  Please note that these are all iPhone photos; I didn’t bring my camera with me.

I purchased the shade New York Scene, a neutral red, and my friend purchased Barcelona Nights, a hot pink / fuchsia.  These are two of the brighter shades in the range, so please note that the lasting power, evenness, etc may be different for the more muted shades. Continue reading

Sephora Coral Extract Rouge Infusion Lip Stain Review & Swatches

Purchased – Affiliate Links

I went to Sephora a couple weekends ago to check out several new products in person, and was remarkably restrained – the only thing I bought was one of the new Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion Lip Stains. There are 12 colors (oddly, they’re numbered No. 1 – 13 with no No. 2), and they sell for $14.

I swatched all but one in-store (the tester was missing). Here are the swatches – as you can see, the pigmentation level varies significantly between shades, with the lighter shades having medium intensity and the darker shades being EXTREMELY pigmented. None have any shimmer or sparkle. Continue reading

I recently found a Walgreens with a fully stocked, updated-for-2014 Wet n Wild display, and I bought several of the new products to test out. Today, I have a review and swatches of the Wet n Wild Fergie Vicious Varnish High Shine lip gloss stains. The stains come in the following ten colors, and I bought five of them, which are in bold. Milani Power Lip Gloss Stain Swatches & Review

Purchased – No Affiliate Links

Milani has released several new items for 2014, and although they’re not yet online, they are starting to show up in stores. Earlier this week, I purchased two Power Lip gloss stains, and I am loving them so far!

The Power Lips are packaged in short, squat tubes, and dispense through a dense white brush tip. Be careful when you start to twist them, because there will be no product, no product, no product . . . then BAM, too much product! This is true of every similarly packaged item I have tried, though.   Continue reading

Hard Candy Love Bite All Glossed Up Hydrating Lip Stain Review & Swatches

Hard Candy All Glossed Up Lip Stain Love Bite

Hard Candy (which is exclusively available in Walmart stores and on -->Walmart.com -->) recently released several new products, including the “ -->All Glossed Up -->” jumbo lip pencil, which is described as a hydrating lip stain. I purchased one in the color “Love Bite” – a pinky-purple.

I always have trouble photographing purples, so this swatch is not as color accurate as I would like; the pencil is actual a bit more purple.  Still, you can see that the pencil has translucent-but-pigmented glossy color.  I found it very comfortable to wear; neither moisturizing nor drying.

The lip swatch photograph is also a touch too pink.  You can see how glossy and smooth my lips look, however! As promised, the pencil left a stain, though the stain was not particularly long-lasting.

I did not notice any smell or taste; unlike the Revlon Kissable Balm Stains, these do not have a peppermint scent, which I was half expecting just because these are similarly packaged.

Overall, I like this product – it is glossy and comfortable to wear, and because of the stain, reasonably long wearing. I do wish that the shade I picked, Love Bite, was more purple and less pink, but it’s still a nice shade (and is more purple than appears in the photos).  For $5, I’d say that it’s worth purchasing one to try out if it looks appealing to you!

NARS Palais Royal Satin Lip Pencil Review & Swatches

A few days ago, I posted swatches of all of the new NARS Satin Lip Pencils — and I know several of you have been waiting for this review since!

Note: As of 3/6, these are now available for purchase on Nordstrom.com!

First, some details – per the NARS facebook page, the pencils will become available on narscosmetics.com on March 7th; I believe they will show up at other online retailers and in stores a little later, but I don’t know the exact dates. They will sell for $25, which is the current price of the similarly-packaged Velvet Matte and Velvet Gloss pencils. At the moment, you can purchase them through Pinterest; details on that on the NARS Facebook page, .

Nars Palais Royal Satin Lip Pencil Swatch-2

Palais Royal Satin Lip Pencil

This review is for the shade Palais Royal, which is a gorgeous deep berry. It’s incredibly pigmented – the thinner line on the left is just one pass of the pencil, and I didn’t press hard at all; just a light touch yields that kind of color payoff. The pencils are quite soft, but not so soft I had trouble sharpening mine (it wouldn’t have needed sharpening, but I wanted to test it out). Here’s the sharpened tip:

Nars Satin Lip Pencil - Sharpened

You can see that there was no issue. I used my Urban Decay Grindhouse sharpener because I pulled it out of the drawer first, but Essence’s dupe is just as good.

The texture of this product is different than other products I have tried. It applies very smoothly, and at first it feels like a very glossy lipstick or a gloss/lipstick hybrid – sort of like Revlon’s lip butters, or maybe a lip butter crossed with a non-sticky gloss. Note that the glossier the finish is.  Here is a freshly applied swatch with a moderate amount of product – I could have easily used more for a higher gloss finish.

Palais Royal

After about 30-45 minutes, the product sort of dries down and melds into my lips, and starts to have more of a natural finish / satin finish.  It absolutely does not create a film like some long-wearing lipsticks do – this is more like the glossiness just wears off, and you’re left with all the color and less of the shine.

It’s hard for me to give a wear time in terms of hours, because lipsticks last so differently from person to person and it also depends on whether you’re eating or drinking (and I’m using sipping on something).  This Satin Lip Pencil was moderately long-wearing on me; the product itself lasted a few hours, and then it left a stain on my lips which hung around for another few hours (and faded evenly – no ring around the lips!). It wasn’t one of the longest wearing products I’ve tried, but it wore longer than the average lipstick. I personally did not find it either hydrating or drying, but I rarely find any lipstick drying, so I’ll be curious to see what others think!

Here’s a half-face shot, so you can see the color better with my skintone – it’s really a gorgeous shade.

Overall, I think this is a lovely product and a great new offering from NARS.  I absolutely love this color, and think they did an exceptionally good job with the shade range.  I’m not sure that it will become one of my go-to products, both because I tend to prefer something that transfers less (this does transfer to coffee cups, etc. significantly, especially when freshly applied) and because I usually prefer a very long-wearing lip product.  But, those are just personal preferences – this is a high quality product, and worth checking out once it launches!
