Milani Coming Up Roses Blush Review & Swatches

Milani Flora Passion Warm Petals Coming Up Roses Blush

Flora Passion // Warm Petals

Milani recently released a new collection of four limited edition rose shaped blushes, the “Coming Up Roses” collection.  There are four colors available, and I purchased two of them: Flora Passion, a matte pinky-coral, and Warm Petals, a slightly shimmery orangey nude.

Milani’s permanent blush line (the baked blushes) are very pigmented and beautiful colors but are too shimmery for my preferences, so I had high hopes for the Coming Up Roses blushes.  Unfortunately, I was very disappointed by these.

NYX Hibiscus & Tea Rose Stick Blush Review, Swatches, Photos

Purchased Affiliate Links Since Ulta’s 40% off NYX sale ends in a few days, I wanted to be sure to get this review up today! I purchased these two stick blushes on the first day of the sale, and so far, I really like them.

The packaging is pretty basic; colored plastic that closely matches the shade of the product.  They contain a good amount of product – – and the full price around $6 at Ulta or Cherryculture.

I believe that some of the shades contain shimmer, but I chose two shades with creme finishes – no sparkle or shimmer at all. Both are very pigmented.

I found each of the stick blushes a bit difficult to blend out over dry skin, but they were easy to blend over well-moisturized skin, including over foundation. I would not recommend using these over a powder foundation; they are not emollient enough for that to work.  They work best over well-moisturized skin or over liquid foundation.

I’ve only worn them a couple times so far, but wear time seems typical for a cream product, or perhaps a little better than usual.  For me, that means that they last 5-6 hours (creams usually last 4-5 hours on me; this is probably partially because I wear blush very lightly).

Overall, I really like these, and I’d definitely recommend them – especially on sale!

Essence Cherry Blossom Girl Blush – Swatch of the Day

Giveaway Prize
Essence Cherry Blossom Girl Blush, Lashes

Essence Cherry Blossom Girl Blush, Lashes

I really love the brand Essence – it surprised me when I just checked and realized I’ve only reviewed a few products from the brand! I have about 20 Essence nail polishes (so easy when they’re so inexpensive), and several makeup items yet-unreviewed.  But, one thing that I don’t like about Essence is how hard it is for me to obtain their products! Ulta has some items, and gets some limited edition products, but only a tiny fraction of what other countries get.  And, this is all a long-winded way of tell you all how very excited I was to win Liz the Beauty Reductionista‘s giveaway of two limited edition Essence items from the Cherry Blossom Girl collection! I haven’t tried the paper lashes yet – what does one wear them to? – but I have swatches of the blush for you! Continue reading

Flower Cosmetics Elegant Azalea Win Some Rouge Some Creme Blush: Review & Swatches

Purchased Affiliate Links

I purchased two items from the new(ish) Flower by Drew Barrymore line (available available exclusively at Walmart,  -->online --> and in some stores).   Earlier today, I reviewed the Color Play Creme Eyeshadow in Time Willow Tell, which I did not like – but you win some and you lose some, and this Win Some Rouge Some Creme Blush is a definite hit!  (Okay that was terrible of me.)

Again, I’m not a fan of Flower’s packaging; the white plastic looks cheap and tacky to me, and I really wish they had printed the shade names on the actual packaging rather than on just the peel-off labels.

Most – or perhaps all – of the other cream/creme blushes I own are true creams, but this Flower blush is a cream-to-powder formula. The texture is sort of silky and powdery, but also creamy, if that makes any sense – and it definitely dries down to a powder finish.  It is incredibly pigmented (the heavier swatch below is just one swipe!) but also extremely blendable, so it’s easy to apply anything from the sheerest layer on up.

I chose the shade Elegant Azalea, which is a bright coral-pink with a matte finish; no shimmer or sparkle at all (my swatch photo came out oddly and it sort of looks like there is shimmer; there definitely is not any).

Overall, I love this blush. It’s a great color and a great texture. I love that it’s so blendable and so easy to apply a sheer layer, yet also so easy to build up more intense color. I would absolutely recommend this product, and I’m considering picking up more shades!

Maybelline Coral Burst Blush Review & Swatches

Earlier today, I posted about Maybelline’s new limited edition Color Goes Electric collection for Fashion Week Spring 2013.  I’ve purchased just one item for from the collection – the baked blush in Coral Burst, a very vivid orange.   I initially though it was matte, but it actually has a satin (low-shimmer) finish.

I haven’t tried a Maybelline blush in a while, and I remember being unimpressed, but this blush surprised me – the texture is quite nice, very smooth and even.  It’s very pigmented, and could easily be used an eyeshadow (and I’m sure would be even brighter over primer or a white base).  It’s also easy to apply a sheer layer, which is good, given how orange it is!

I applied this in the middle of the afternoon today, and it seems to be wearing fairly normally, not fading faster or slower than average.

Overall, this is a fantastic option if you’ve been looking for an orange blush at drugstore prices.  The color certainly isn’t for everyone (and I admit that I don’t see myself wearing it frequently), but the quality is definitely there.

Senna Haute Nudes Mystic Eye & Cheek Palette Review, Swatches, Photos

senna haute nudes - mystic

Becca of the gorgeous blog The Beauty Sample recently had a series of giveaways for her one year blogaversary, and I was the very lucky winner of the Senna Haute Nudes Eye & Face Palette in Mystic, which is the cooler toned palette (it also comes in Sultry, the warmer toned one). If you’d like Becca’s perspective on the palettes, here is her review of Mystic and her review of Sultry.

Senna Haute Nudes - Mystic

The Senna Mystic palette includes a highlighter (which could be used a shimmery blush on the very pale), a blush, and six eyeshadows – two shimmer and four matte. It also has some applicators, which seem to be of decent quality. Personally, I very rarely use included applicators for anything other than swatching – and I wouldn’t use these – but they are softer and of better quality than they appear.

I hadn’t tried anything from Senna before this palette, but had heard mostly positive things. When I swatched the palette the first time, I was absolutely stunned by three of the four matte eyeshadows – they are some of the very best matte eyeshadows I have ever tried. The fourth matte, the black, is good – just not quite as buttery, silky, and evenly pigmented as the other three. I cannot even express how amazing those three eyeshadow are – the quality is just perfect.

As to the other eyeshadows, the black eyeshadow is, as I mentioned, quite good – blacks are hard to do well, and this one soft and pigmented. However, you can see in the swatch that it does not apply as smoothly as the other mattes. The two shimmery eyeshadows are good as well; about what I would expect. They are smooth and apply nicely. The white is quite sheer, but I think that’s intentional – the shimmery taupe is more pigmented.

Eyeshadows – natural light (different order, sorry!)

The highlighter was my least favorite part of the palette. The pale pink shade is just a bit too pink for it to be an ideal highlight shade, but it doesn’t have enough pigmentation for me to use as blush (plus, I prefer not to use blush with visible shimmer). It has specks of visible shimmer, and I prefer a highlighter with an even sheen. Thus, I don’t see myself using this highlighter.

I was a little bit skeptical about the color of the blush at first – I find some pinks, especially cool pinks, really difficult to wear on my skintone. However, when blended out, the blush seems to be a slightly warm, almost coral shade, which works very nicely on my coloring. The texture of the blush is great – soft, smooth, and very easy to blend. Senna has really figured out how to do mattes!

I used three of the matte shades to do a soft smokey eye yesterday. I actually didn’t use primer because my skin is so dry right now, and the eyeshadow lasted all day without fading or creasing (I would recommend primer if you have oily lids or if you prefer more intense colors, however). This is the pale lavender (top-center) as a wash over my lid and up into the crease, the deep purple-taupe lightly applied on the lid & lower lashline, and the black along the upper lashline. I’m also using Burberry Trench to blend out the edges and highlight.

Overall, I love this palette. The matte eyeshadows & blush are just fantastic, and I will be using them regularly. If you are a matte eyeshadow lover, I would definitely consider this palette – and I’ll also be taking a look at their matte eyeshadows!

You can purchase Senna Cosmetics on their website; I don’t see any other places to purchase it online.
