Guerlain Nahema Rouge Automatique Lipstick Review, Swatches, Photos

Guerlain Nahema has been on my wishlist since I first saw a swatch. It’s a gorgeous coral – my favorite – and I’ve heard only excellent things about Guerlain’s Rouge Automatique lipstick formula. The only reason I hesitated so long to buy it was the price; $35 is steep for a single lipstick, at least for me. After owning it for a while, and wearing it several times, I’m glad I splurged for it!

Nahmea is a lovely pink-coral with a glossy sheen. True to what I’ve heard, the formula is excellent – very comfortable to wear, yet long lasting. I find that it’s glossy at first, then it sort of transforms into a more muted sheen, which is also very lovely.

I also discovered that I already own a very similar shade – albeit one with a really terrible formula. Here’s a comparison, with Guerlain Nahema on the left, and NYX Femme on the right. Femme – which, if you recall, has a really slippery, uncomfortable formula – is like a more saturated version of Nahema. It’s a good option for a dupe for Nahema if you don’t mind the texture of Femme (and for $4, I’m sure some won’t!). Read my full review of Femme here.

Guerlain Nahema; NYX Femme

And, finally, here’s a quick look I did to feature Nahema. Sorry about the deadpan stare, it was the best of a bunch of terrible pictures! I’m not really pleased with most of my makeup so I won’t list it, but I think Nahema looks great 🙂

I bought Nahema at at Sephora store, and it’s also available at Sephora.com.

Project Swatch #21: Translucent Powder and a Confession

Today, I’m going to talk about my translucent powders. But, since translucent powder swatches wouldn’t be very interesting (here’s my arm! here it is again!), I’m just going to show you the packaging and talk about the products a little. First, you should know that my skin is normal to dry, and I live in a dry environment (Los Angeles), plus it’s winter right now – so the last thing I need is for my powder to be drying. So, I prefer more of a finishing powder to a blot powder.

Why Guerlain Meteorites are with my translucent powders, and not my highlighters: A Confession

So . . . I was applying my Meterorites one day, and thought to myself, the texture of these is just perfect. If they weren’t shimmery, I bet this would make an ideal finishing powder.  And I’m not a big fan of the type of shimmer in these anyway, I prefer the -->other two highlighters --> I have.  So, I poured out all the balls, and sorted through them. I carefully removed all the shimmery ones, saving them in a ziplock bag for some unknown future purpose.

Now, I have all the matte little balls in the container – and it is indeed a divine finishing powder. Soft, smooth, non-drying, and I think the colors help balance out my complexion. You might think I’m crazy, but it feels luxurious to use, and I absolutely LOVE my “special” Meteorites.

Do you think I’m wacky for repurposing my meteorites?

And then, next up, and from the other end of the budget spectrum, my ELF Compexion Perfection Pressed Powder.

The ELF powder is a pretty standard setting powder.   It works nicely, but it’s nothing special. I usually try to pick up the green powder especially, since i have a lot of red in my skin, but I’m not sure that doing that helps the redness at all.  When I’m at home, I always use the Meteorites, but if I’m traveling, I always bring the ELF.

I also have two powders that I barely use and have few thoughts on; they’re nice, but I just prefer the Meteorites at home, and something pressed when I’m traveling.  The Bare Minerals Mineral Veil was the first powder I ever used – it’s fine, I have no problems with it, but I don’t like to both with loose powder unless the powder is something special, and this powder is not something special.

Given that I don’t like to bother with loose powder, I’m not sure why I bought this MUFE HD loose powder – though it is the smaller size.  I think I bought it because I love the MUFE HD foundation so much, so I thought I should try the powder out. The powder is fine, but nothing special.

Project Swatch #6: Highlight & Contour

Probably the two prettiest makeup products I own . . .

I still have one lipstick post to go – the fun colors – but I’m waiting for my Illamasqua Kontrol to arrive in the mail before I put that one together. So, next up we have highlight and contour!

Luckily I haven’t gone TOO overboard (. . . yet) with the highlight & contour products, so I can put them together in one post – I have two of each.  However, for face products, I tend to go high-end, so these are a little more pricy (for things like lipsticks or eyeshadows, I tend to have a mix of high end and drugstore products).

It’s really hard to photograph highlighters! This is the best shot I got.

MAC Lightscapade: ABSOLUTE FAVORITE HIGHLIGHT EVER. It looks like light hitting my skin, it’s just perfect.

Guerlain Parure de Nuit: I wanted this for months before I gave in and bought it, and it’s the most expensive makeup product I own.  I actually don’t like it as much as Lightscapade, but it feels so luxurious to use – it’s scented, it’s beautiful – so I’m glad I bought it.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Medium Deep: Nice product to contour. I also really like the texture of this, and if I ever need another powder (just you wait until you see how many powders I have!), I’ll probably buy an MSF in my skintone, which is a couple shades lighter. However, when swatching, I realized that this has a little bit of red in it – so I probably won’t repurchase this one as a contour product.

Benefit Hoola: I just have a mini one – this is a really nice contour product. After comparing the swatches, I think I prefer this as a contour product to the MSF – so I will eventually buy the full size. It’ll probably take me a very long time to use up the mini, though!
