Vampy Lipgloss Swatches & Comparison

vampy lipgloss swatches-2

Lately, I’ve really been loving berry lips and vampy lips, and I’ve bought a few lipglosses to layer with my lipsticks to amp up the vamp factor! Today, I have swatches of Rimmel Black Diva, MAC Feelin’ So Good (reviewed here), and Becca Berry Twist.

Rimmel Black Diva // MAC Feelin’ So Good // Becca Berry Twist

As you can see, the Rimmel gloss is a true black.  The MAC gloss is a very deep plum brown, and the Becca is a true berry.  None of the three have any shimmer.

Rimmel Black Diva

Rimmel Black Diva is quite sheer when applied. I don’t see myself, or most, wearing it alone – it’s definitely a layering gloss.

MAC Feelin’ So Good

Feelin’ So Good is a color that is wearable alone, but it really gathers in lip lines. So, it’s also best for layering – but it is an incredibly layering shade, and I absolutely LOVE it.

Becca Berry Twist

Becca Berry Twist is definitely the best shade to wear on its own. My lips weren’t in very good condition when I swatched it – you can see a horizontal line on them, which means I need to exfoliate, but it’s not really the lipgloss’s fault.  Note that the Becca gloss does have a rather strong sweet scent – I don’t really like it, but it does fade quickly.

I’ve also swatched all the glosses over a berry lipstick, Wet n Wild Ferguson Crest Cabernet. Here’s the lipstick alone:

It’s a really lovely bright berry, and one that I’ve been wearing frequently! I have a review of it and all the other Wet n Wild Perfect Pout lipsticks here.

Here is the same lipstick with the Rimmel lipgloss. It tones down the brightness, and somehow brings out the purple. I like this, but I don’t think I love it.

Here is the lipstick with the MAC lipgloss (or lipglass). I love this, I love it SO much.  It’s deeper, a bit more plum, but not too dark, and just a gorgeous shade overall!

If you’d like to see this lipgloss over several other shades (reds & a vamp), please see this post.

Adding the Becca gloss also deepens the Wet n Wild lipstick, but doesn’t change the color as much as the other two.  It does tone down the brightness, and is a really lovely color – a great combination.  I’ll be wearing this combination in the future for sure!

As a final note, due to reader feedback, I’m experimenting with zoomed-out lip swatches that show more of my face.  Do you like them, hate them, are you indifferent to them? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeliner Review, Swatches, Photos

Taupe, Nude, Deep Blue

Rimmel released its Scandal Eyes liners in the UK a little while ago, but they are new to the US. They showed up first in temporary displays, which had a only a few shades, but now that Rimmel wall displays are being updated, more shades are available. I’ve seen them in-store at all the major drugstores in my area, and they’re already online at Ulta.com – and only $4.49. Per the Rimmel website, seven shades are available in the UK and ten shades are available in the US. Two of the shades I purchased, Nude and Taupe, are available in both countries, and Deep Blue is US-exclusive.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the US shades:

Let me cut to the chase: I LOVE THESE. This review is going to be a complete rave, I love them SO much. They might even replace Prestige Total Intensity pencils as my all-time favorite eyeliners. I will definitely be buying the black and a couple more shades (and will also be trying out the Scandal Eyes Shadow Sticks to see if they’re just as good!

So, what makes them so great? They are creamy but not too soft (the Prestige pencils do have a tendency towards being too soft).  They are smudgeable at first, but after they set they don’t migrate, smudge, or move.  I tried to smear the swatches on my arm, but was completely unable to – I eventually got them to flake a little, but only after my arm was quite red from rubbing at it! Nude lasts about 5-6 hours on my waterline – I wear contacts, and I’ve never had anything last six hours on my waterline before! And, I get all day wear on my upper or lower lashline.

In the below swatches, the line on the left is a single pass, and the square on the right is a built up swatch. There isn’t much difference, because these liners are very pigmented in one swipe – you don’t need to go back and forth to build them up!

Nude // Taupe // Deep Blue

Nude is a peach beige – it’s great to see more shades like this at the drugstore.  Taupe is a light brown – it’s fantastic shade for my lower lashline, as it defines, but isn’t harsh like a darker brown would be. I normally only use eyeshadow on my lower lashline because I find most pencil lines too harsh, but this is very wearable.  I think it would also make a great upper lashline color for light blondes who want a natural but defined look. Deep Blue is a very dark navy blue – gorgeous, and a great alternative to black.

Edit: I love these so much that I went back and bought more! Here are quick swatches of the five shades I currently own:

I also have a comparison of my nude (or again, light peachy beige) pencils – the Scandal Eyes one is a bit darker and more orange in comparison to the others, which are the MAC Pro Chromagraphic Pencil in NC15/NW20 (now available online) and the concealer pencil from the Hard Candy Glamoflauge concealer.

There’s not much else to say – go buy these now! And tell me what you think!

Spotted: New Rimmel 2013 Products

Rimmel Sunshimmer Shimmering Maxi Bronzer

I spotted several new Rimmel products at Walgreens this week, so here are some display photos! I haven’t purchased any of them yet – I’m hoping for a sale soon. If there is anything you would like to see reviewed, please leave a comment and I’ll see what I can do.

Above, you see Rimmel’s Sunshimmer Shimmering Maxi Bronzer for Face & Body.  There are three shades – 001, 002, and 003 – I’m not sure if they have names as well.

I saw a new mascara, called Scandaleyes Show Off – I like the look of the brush:

Also in the Scandaleyes range are eye shadow sticks and kohl liners.

I was asked on twitter if there was a nude liner – apparently there is one in the Scandaleyes range in the UK – but I didn’t see one.

Rimmel Kate Matte lipsticks

Rimmel Kate Matte lipsticks

Several bloggers have already reviewed the Kate Moss Matte lipsticks. I’m interested in the shade Kate is wearing in the promo picture – 107 – but I haven’t been able to find it in stock yet, and I also dislike the fruity scent of these lipsticks, so I’m not sure I’ll get it.

And finally, Rimmel BB Cream:

Please let me know if you like or dislike “spotted!” posts for new drugstore products.  I often see new products when I’m out & about, and could easily make this a regular feature, but I’m not sure what the interest level is.
