NYC Precious Pink Sparkle Eye Dust Swatch & Quick Review

NYC Precious Pink Sparkle Eye Dust

NYC Precious Pink Sparkle Eye Dust

For my first post today, I have Precious Pink Sparkle Eye Dust from NYC’s new Let’s Paint the Town Collection.  Last night I thought it looked sort of sandy gold; it turns out that’s because the lighting in-store was so awful – it’s actually a lovely peachy pink.

For a full review of the packaging and formula of NYC’s recently repackaged Sparkle Eye Dust, please see this post.  This shade was smooth and pigmented – just as good as the shade swatched in that post.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this shade – inexpensive, high quality, and a gorgeous color!

Spotted: NYC Let’s Paint The Town Collection

NYC Let's Paint The Town Display

Earlier today, I found a new NYC collection at Rite Aid, called the Let’s Paint The Town collection. Since none of the products are listed on -->NYC’s website -->, I think every product in this display is limited edition – however, if you have different information, please let me know in the comments!

The display contains two bronzers, four lip glosses, two eyeshadow trios, two sparkle eye dusts and polishes (from the $2 quick dry line).  This post has information and photos about the collection; I purchased several items, and I’ll have swatches for you tomorrow.

NYC Big Bold Bronzing Powder

NYC Big Bold Bronzing Powder: ManhanTan, MetropoliTan

The bronzers are a new item; they’re named the Big Bold Bronzing powders, and I love the design embossed on them.  The lighter one is named ManhanTan and the darker MetropoliTan. As you can see, I purchased both.

NYC Let's Paint The Town Lip Gloss

Water Lily, Dewy Rose, Pink Flamingo, Spring Meadow

There are four Kiss lip glosses. Water Lily appears to be a shimmery pink, Dewy Rose to be a pink creme, Pink Flamingo a coral creme, and Spring Meadow to be a shimmery green (which I am guessing applies clear from the translucency).  I believe the Kiss Glosses are fairly sheer glosses, so I didn’t purchase any of them.

NYC Let's Paint The Town Eyeshadow Trios

Crystal Springs, Water Colors

The eyeshadow trios have lovely colors – I especially love the peach in Water Colors and the blue in Water Colors.  But, given my recent disappointing experience with NYC eyeshadow trios, I didn’t purchase either.

NYC Let's Paint The Town Sparkle Eye Dust

Golden Splash, Precious Pink

Oddly, the pink-appearing Sparkle Eye Dust is called Golden Splash (perhaps it reflects gold?) and the sandy gold Sparkle Eye Dust is called Precious Pink. I checked all of the labels on all of the eye dusts (each is labeled twice) in case something was mislabeled, but that appears not to be the case. I purchased Precious Pink & will have swatches of that for you tomorrow.

NYC Let's Paint The Town Nail Polish

Spring Tulip, Apple Fizz, Raindrop, Shimmer Blast

The nail polishes are really lovely – Spring Tulip is a hot pink creme, which is a great color, but not really my style, so I didn’t get it. I purchased the other three – Apple Fizz, sort of a neon pastel green, Raindrop, a pastel blue (also not really my color, but I’ve been getting more into blue lately), and Shimmer Blast, which I am SO excited to swatch.

Will you be keeping an eye out for this collection?

As always, this is a swatch on unprimed skin.  I used my finger for this swatch instead of a sponge-tip applicator.  For a full review of NYC’s Sparkle eye dust, please see this post.

NYC Boat Basin Polish – Swatch of the Day

Purchased
NYC Boat Basin Swatch

NYC Boat Basin Long Wearing Nail Polish

NYC has recently released some new shades in both it’s $1 Long-Wearing nail polish line and it’s $2 Quick Dry nail polish line; I’ve swatched a few of them now (see them all here), and I think Boat Basin, a saturated blue, is my favorite.

Here’s a comparison with two similar-ish shades; I was particularly wondering how it would compare to Nails, Inc. Baker St.

NYC Boat Basin Comparison Swatches

OPI Dating a Royal // NYC Boat Basin // Nails, Inc. Baker St.

OPI Dating a Royal is closest, but a bit dustier and darker; the difference is more noticeable in person.  The NYC is actually my favorite of the three polishes – I just love the slightly dusty, intensely saturated deep-bright blue.  Nails, Inc. Baker St. is just as saturated, but much lighter.

Note also that Nails, Inc. Baker St., Essie Butler Please, and Sally Hansen Pacific Blue are all very close; you can see comparisons of those three polishes here.

One final picture – this polish is just so gorgeous!

I don’t see anywhere to purchase this polish online, but it should be widely available anywhere that stocks NYC makeup.

NYC HD Eyeshadow Trios: Swatches & Review

NYC HD Eyeshadow Trios

High-quality neutral eyeshadows can be difficult to find at the drugstore, so I was excited when I learned that NYC had released several new eyeshadow trios – and many of them were neutrals! Per the NYC website, there are 12 trios, and 5-6 of them look to be neutral; I’ve only seen six of them in-store so far (in permanent displays at CVS and temporary displays at Rite Aid), and those displays had the pictured four neutral quads. Drugstore.com has eleven of the trios available for purchase.

The suggested retail price of the trios is $2.99 each; I had $1 off coupons and bought them on sale, so I ended up paying only about a dollar per trio.

NYC HD Eyeshadow Trios

Long Beach Sands // Bronzed in Brooklyn // Late Night Latte // Central Park Plums

The eyeshadows trios are packaged in slim black compacts; I appreciate that there isn’t much space wasted, and they also look like they would be easy to depot.

The textures of the eyeshadows vary; some are sheer and sparkly, some have satin finishes, some are shimmers,  and some have almost no payoff at all.  I would say that the texture/payoff/pigmentation level ranges from very poor to acceptable; none of the eyeshadows rise to the level of good.

nyc long beach sands swatches

Long Beach Sands

Long Beach Sands:
Browbone shade: A little too soft – lots of fallout, decent payoff.
Lid shade: One of the better shades, a smooth satin.
Crease shade: Not much payoff, a satin.

nyc bronzed in brooklyn swatches

Bronzed in Brooklyn

Bronzed in Brooklyn:
Browbone shade: Very poor pigmentation, barely shows up.
Lid shade: Okay-ish; takes multiple swipes.
Crease shade: One of the better shades – satin finish.

nyc late night latte swatches

Late Night Latte

Late Night Latte:
Browbone shade: Shows up okay, okay texture.
Lid shade: The worst shade of the bunch – too hard, barely shows up.
Crease shade: Too sheer, but does show up.

nyc central park plums swatches

Central Park Plums

Central Park Plums:
Browbone shade: An okay shade – sheer but decent.
Lid shade: Another okay but sheer shade.
Crease shade: Not much payoff, does show up with multiple swipes.

Overall, I can’t recommend any of these trios — even for a dollar; they’re just too inconsistent and the quality isn’t there.  If you’re looking for an inexpensive neutral eyeshadow trio, go for one of Wet n Wild’s instead; they’re the same price and miles better.

*As noted in this review, I purchased all four of these trios.  This post contains affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more information.

NYC Brownstone Polish – Swatch of the Day

Purchase
NYC Brownstone Swatch

NYC Brownstone

I bought my first brown nail polish! NYC Brownstone (from the In A Minute Quick Dry polish line) is a lovely coffee & cream light brown; I love it on my skin color, and I think it would be a gorgeous mannequin hands nude on someone with a deeper skintone as well.  The formula was perfect – thin, even, and perfectly opaque in two coats.
