Sinful Colors Almost Famous / Paparazzi Collection Swatches & Photos

Sinful Colors In The Spotlight, Fantasy, Star Dust swatches

In The Spotlight // Fantasy // Star Dust

A few days ago I spotted and posted about a new limited edition drugstore collection, the Sinful Colors Almost Famous limited edition glitters, which I saw at Walgreens. Today, I saw the same collection at Rite Aid, but it is called the Paparazzi collection – Sinful Colors has done this before, and I checked the bottles – all the polishes are the same, just the display is different.  I purchased three shades, and I have swatches for you, plus information on the shades I didn’t buy.

First, here are the two displays to compare:

Here are the three shades I purchased – In The Spotlight, Fantasy, and Star Dust.

I’ve swatched them alone and over black.

In The Spotlight

In the Spotlight has large rainbow glitter and very fine green glitter in a clear base, but it almost appears to be a green base because of the glitter.

Fantasy

Fantasy has large rainbow glitter and small rainbow glitter – this one is my favorite.

Star Dust

Star Dust has large hot pink glitter and smallish purple glitter. It looks especially good over black.

There are five shades I did not purchase – two are multi-glitters:

Bombshell

Bombshell looks similar to In The Spotlight – I think it’s large rainbow glitters with small green glitters, but it’s hard to tell.

sinful colors show stopping

Show Stopping

Show Stopping seems like a pink version of the multi glitters – large rainbow glitters with small pink glitters; though again, I’m not sure.

Rounding out the collection are three solid-colors glitters – Popparazzi is a bright pinky-purple glitter, After Party is a blue glitter, and Lush Life is a turquoise glitter. I believe all three have both small and large glitter pieces.

Are you planning to pick up anything from this collection?

Sinful Colors Swatches

I noticed that some of my most popular posts are the ones featuring Sinful Colors swatches, so I though that I should swatch all of my Sinful Colors polishes for you.  I managed to miss a few (I’ve managed to buy a lot of these polishes – mostly while they were on sale for $1 each), but here are 30 swatches.  Since there are so many polishes, I did these on nail wheels.

The first wheel starts with some miscellaneous topcoats (and a metallic), goes to pink, then we start the rainbow – red, orange, yellow, and green. All swatches are two coats unless otherwise noted.

Because this post is so long and image-heavy, I’ve placed the rest of the photographs behind a cut (hopefully it works) so the front page of the blog doesn’t get too long and load slowly! Continue reading

Sinful Colors Matte Top Coat Review, Swatches, Comparison

sinful matte top coat-2

Sinful Colors Matte Top Coat

As I posted, I recently found a display with a new Sinful Colors matte top coat (which sells for $1.99, the same price as the other Sinful Colors polishes).  I’ve tested it out, and I have a review and some comparison swatches for you!  In the photo below, I have two coats of Nails, Inc. Black Taxi (a shiny black creme) on all four fingers, and then my index and ring finger each have one coat of the matte top coat.   There’s not really much to say about it; it certainly works!

I only own one other matte top coat – NYC’s Matte Me Crazy top coat, which is also $1.99.  For the following photo, I left the two Sinful Colors nails alone, and painted the two glossy nails with one coat of the NYC topcoat.

Sinful Colors and NYC matte top coat comparison

Please let me know if you can detect a difference – because I definitely couldn’t; the finish was identical.  The consistency of both polishes was identical as well – just slightly thicker than I’d prefer, but easy enough to work with.

I’ve heard that the NYC Matte Me Crazy is less matte / more satin as compared to some other topcoats (like the Essie Matte About You), but I couldn’t find a clear comparison of the two.  If you own multiple matte topcoats, please let me know in the comments whether you can tell them apart!

Sinful Colors Holiday Shimmers: Review & Swatches

Sinful Colors Super Star, Winter Wonder, Faceted

Sinful Colors has released a collection of glitters for the holidays, called the “Holiday Shimmer” collection – I believe there are six new shades in the collection, though I’m not sure.  I purchased three of the shades – Super Star, Winter Wonder, and Faceted, and I have quick & dirty swatches plus a review for you today!

First, Super Star, my favorite. Super Star consists of purple glitter and blue glass-shard flakies in a blue tinted base. It’s a unique and beautiful shade. In terms of consistency, it is a bit goopy – it applies fine if you wait for each layer to dry, but if you try to apply a layer over wet nail polish, it is prone to gathering at the tips and/or creating bald spots.  It is opaque in two coats, which is pictured here (it looks much better with topcoat, but is pictured without topcoat):

Sinful Colors Super Star

I also have a NOTD shot of Super Star – my cuticles are in absolutely terrible condition, so sorry – this is why I have one-thumb swatches of the others. But, you can see how lovely it is with topcoat!

My second favorite is Winter Wonder, which is a blue-grey base with multicolored shimmer. I see silver and blue shimmer primarily, but also flashes of green and magenta.   This has a nice formula (thicker than ideal, but very usable), but takes three coats to be almost opaque.   I’ve also tried layering it over a dark grey – one coat layered is lovely, but doesn’t have the depth of the polish alone.   This looks similar to Zoya FeiFei in swatches, but I don’t own the Zoya to compare.  The following swatch is three coats:

Sinful Colors Winter Wonder

My least favorite of the three is Faceted, which is a clear polish with purple glitter and iridescent green bar glitter. This was also thick in consistency; again, you need to be sure the first layer is mostly dry before adding another layer.  This is probably best as a layering polish, but here are two coats alone – the iridescence made my camera refuse to focus!

Sinful Colors Faceted

Overall, I would recommend Super Star and Winter Wonder, but give Faceted a pass.

Dupe Alert! NARS Stormbird and Sinful Colors Smokin’

Almost dupes: NARS Stormbird and Sinful Colors Smokin'

Almost dupes: NARS Stormbird and Sinful Colors Smokin’

When I first saw a swatch of NARS Stormbird, I instantly fell in love with it’s blue toned deep gray.   However, it retails for $18, which is a lot to pay for a simple creme polish – or any polish.  So, I was thrilled when I realized that Sinful Colors Smokin’ (from the Enchanted Collection)  is almost identical.

They aren’t completely identical; Stormbird has a touch more blue – but they’re definitely close enough to satisfy me.

Sinful Colors Enchanted Collection Swatches & Comparison

Sinful Colors Enchanted Collection

Sinful Colors Enchanted Collection; missing Inkwell (did not buy) & Rain Storm (rolled out of photo)

I recently stumbled upon a full drugstore display of a new Sinful Colors Enchanted collection – filled with murky, dusty cremes – my favorites! I bought five of the six polishes – I skipped Inkwell, since it looked like a black creme, and I have plenty of those already.

Update: Per commenter Stella, Inkwell is not black – it’s a purple! Based on her comment I purchased it, and I would describe it as a dark, vampy eggplant purple. Thanks Stella!

The seven colors I bought are Last Chance (deep green creme), Rain Storm (dusty blue creme), Mesmerize (deep purple creme), Muse (dusty greyed out purple creme), Jungle Trail (pale grey creme), Smokin (medium grey creme), and In The Mist (dusty/murkey green/grey creme).

As an aside, let me also note that I am aware of the recent controversy over Sinful Colors stealing bloggers’ images.  If you don’t know what I’m talking about, start here, then read this update.  G. at Nouveau Cheap, who I respect and admire very much,  has decided not to cover Sinful Colors polishes on her blog for now.  While I respect that decision, I have come to a different conclusion for now.  Until I know what’s going on, I will continue to buy Sinful Colors polishes and swatch them for the blog; if new information comes to light I will reevaluate.  You are welcome to comment on this, but please be respectful.

Back to the polishes themselves – some of these polishes are new, and some are repromotes. In order to determine which was which, I googled for color names. As best as I can tell:

Inkwell (not swatched here) is new.
Last Chance is a repromote.
Rain Storm is a repromote – I actually realized when I got home that I already owned this, and swatched it previously here!
Mesmerize is new.
Muse – I’m not sure about this one – it is probably new.
Jungle Trail  is new.
Smokin is new.
In The Mist is new.

Here are some comparisons:

Sinful Colors In the Mist and Leap Flog are very close, but In the Mist is a tiny bit darker and duskier than Leap Flog.

Here’s a picture of the display so you can recognize it if you see it:

Overall, I love these colors. Cremes are my favorite finish, and I love the dusty colors of this collection.

Update! I saw this collection at Walgreens today – all the polishes are the same, but it’s called the “Muse” Collection instead of the “Enchanted” Collection. I have no idea why.
