As part of my initial Wet n Wild buying spree, I purchased D-Vinely Chilled Ferguson Crest Cabernet lipstick (reviewed here), which was unfortunately mislabeled as D-Vinely Chilled! I love it so much that I went back and bought six more of the Perfect Pout lipsticks! The only ones I didn’t buy are the two pinks and one shade that appears to have shimmer. These are now available to buy online if you can’t find them locally.

The one thing I don’t like about them is the packaging – it looks cheap, and since the bullet doesn’t retract all the way into the tube, if you aren’t extra-careful, you can easily nick it when putting the cap back on.

These lipsticks look similar to Wet n Wild’s Mega Last matte lip colors, but they are completely different – the Perfect Pout lipsticks are semi-translucent and slightly glossy.  All the colors I purchased are shimmer-free (Fuchsianista has a slight duochrome) and have excellent pigmentation.  I’ve tested a couple of the shades for wear, and the lighter shades last 2-3 hours, while the darker shades last 4-6 hours.  The two nudes and the black do not leave stains; the other four shades do leave stains, which last an additional couple hours after the lipstick fades, and last through a meal.

I have swatches of seven of the shades. The three missing shades are a light pink (V.I.P. Pink), a darker pink (Penthouse Sweet) and a wine color that appears to have shimmer (Ferguson Crest Cabernet).

The reason the Pagan Angel (black) swatch is so messy is that the tip of that lipstick broke off while I was swatching it – I’m pretty sure it was already broken when I bought it.  Since the other six shades are completely fine, I don’t think this is a systemic problem with the lipsticks, but please comment if you have this problem too!

Overall, I would definitely recommend these lipsticks to everyone – I just love the texture and finish! My favorite colors are Ferguson Crest Cabernet and Old School Glam.

I believe that these are currently only available at one specific Walgreens in Los Angeles (at Sunset & Vine), and will be hitting drugstores nationwide in January.

These are now showing up at Walgreens drugstores nationwide!

Drugstore Nude and Neutral Lipstick Swatches & Comparison

Drugstore Nude & Neutral lipstick comparison

I recently posted a drugstore red lipstick comparison, and a commenter asked about a nude lipstick comparison. I thought that was a fantastic idea, so that’s what I have for you today!  Today’s lipsticks range from a pale nude to a my lips but better (MLBB) rosy neutral, and I’ve also included a lip crayon and two glosses.

The contenders:

Revlon Rosy Nude, Wet n Wild 902C Bare It All, Essence Creamy Nude, Rimmel Kate 14, L'oreal Sheer Linen, Boots / Poppy King Confidence, Ulta American Girl, Revlon Nude Lustre, NYC Nude York City swatches

Revlon Nude Lustre, NYC Nude York City

Revlon Colorburst Rosy Nude

Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Rosy Nude is more of a MLBB / neutral than a nude.  I really like this lipstick, both for color and formula.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color – 902C Bare It All

Wet n Wild MegaLast is too matte for me to wear alone. I absolute LOVE matte lipstick, but I need my nude lipstick to have some gloss or sheen. It’s a great lipstick to mix / layer with other products, though.

Essence Creamy Nude

Essence Creamy Nude is fantastic – both color and formula.  The hint of pink makes it wearable alone.  Read my full review on Essence lipsticks here.

Rimmel Kate - 14 lip swatch

Rimmel Kate – 14

I’m not a huge fan of Rimmel Kate 14.  I bought it because it looks amazingly fabulous here on Lilit of Makeup & Macaroons, but we have very different skintones, and it doesn’t work as well one me.  It has a fruity scent that I dislike.

L'oreal Rouge Caresse - Sheer Linen lip swatch

L’oreal Rouge Caresse – Sheer Linen

L’oreal Rouge Caresse in Sheer Linen feels nice when applied, but a) it barely shows up on me, and b) it doesn’t last longer than an hour. There’s nothing wrong with it, exactly, but wearing it reminds me of wearing clear lipbalm. I have a review of the Rouge Caresse formula here.

Boots / Poppy King - Number Six Confidence - lip swatch

Boots / Poppy King – Number Six Confidence

Boots / Poppy King Confidence is very close to my natural lip color, but adds a hint of brown.  I like to layer it with too-light nudes to create a wearable shade.

Ulta Lip Crayon- American Girl - lip swatch

Ulta Lip Crayon- American Girl

I really like the formula of Ulta’s Lip Crayons.  American Girl is lovely color – definitely wearable alone on me, and long lasting.

Revlon Super Lustrous lipgloss - Nude Lustre - lip swatch

Revlon Super Lustrous lipgloss – Nude Lustre

Revlon Super Lustrous lipgloss in Nude Lustre is very sheer. It has a slight sparkle, but that isn’t very noticeable on me. It has a really nice texture – not sticky or too slippery; it’s just right.  I don’t wear it often, but when I do want a barely colored gloss, it’s what I reach for.

NYC Liquid Lipshine - Nude York City - lip swatch

NYC Liquid Lipshine – Nude York City

NYC Liquid Lipshine is also a barely tinted gloss – it pretty much shows up as clear with some sparkle on me. The sparkle is very subtle and pretty though, and I love the texture – again, it’s not too sticky or slippery.  However, I HATE the scent – it’s very sweet / cloying, and it prevents me from wearing this gloss.

That’s it for today’s round-up! Any interest in pinks, oranges, corals?

Essence Creamy Nude and Red Carpet Review, Swatches, Photos

Essence Cosmetics is one of my favorite budget makeup brands. I love their 99 cent nail polish, and I’ve been wanting to try their lipstick for a while. Unfortunately, the lipstick isn’t sealed in-store, so (despite the presence of testers!), people seem to swatch the lipsticks.   So, I recently ordered from Ulta.com and got two Essence lipsticks – Creamy Nude and Red Carpet.  Essence makes several lipsticks, but most of the line has shimmer. These are the two creme shades, which is why I picked them.

The packaging is very basic and feels slightly cheap. As you can see, the lipsticks are housed in colored plastic containers.  They are sturdy enough to be perfectly functional, and the lipsticks do retract fully.  For less than $3, I am happy with functional packaging, and I don’t need it to be stylish.

I really like the texture of these lipsticks. They’re creamy, smooth, and moisturizing, but not greasy at all.  Sometimes, budget lipsticks have a waxy feel – but these don’t at all.  They have a faint fruity scent, which I am neutral about – I don’t mind it, but it doesn’t add anything to the experience for me.

Essence Creamy Nude
Essence Red Carpet

Creamy Nude is a nice shade – it’s a flattering nude on me, but it doesn’t replace my favorite nude lip combination.  Red Carpet, however, is amazing – it’s incredibly flattering on me.  Here’s a full face photo so you can see just how great the color is! Note that the name is a little bit deceptive; it’s not a true red on me. Instead, it’s sort of a pink-red color.  But, many red lipsticks have a tendency to lean pink on me – if that’s not true for you, this lipstick may be more red on you.

In the area where I live, Essence is exclusively available  Ulta stores and Ulta.com.
