Wet n Wild Fergie Take The Day On Mattifying Powder in Pedestal: Review & Swatches

Wet n Wild Fergie Mattifying Powder

Wet n Wild has released several new items for 2014, both under the Fergie sub-brand and the main brand. Thus far, I’ve reviewed the Fergie Vicious Varnish stains (love!), Wet n Wild Megaslicks Balm Stains (like), and Wet n Wild 5-pan eyeshadow palettes (dislike).  Today I have a review of the Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection Take on the Day Mattifying Powder in Pedestal (the only shade).

Although this is described as a mattifying powder, the extended description makes it clear that in addition to mattifying, it is supposed to have a luminous finish – it seems to be intended as a dupe of the NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder. From the Walgreens website product description,

Feel shiny within, not without! Revolutionary light-reflecting powder contains porous silica beads, which absorb oil and minimize shine. Lightweight powder feels weightless on the skin without adding color, and sets with a luminous, soft-focus finish.

In fact, in addition to the description, this powder seems to have a lot in common with the NARS (which I do not own).  Both are fairly hard-textured pressed powders with some sparkle that are intended to mattify with a soft-focus finish. Both go on – or at least are intended to go on – translucent, though I’ve read that others noticed a white cast with the Wet n Wild (I did not). Both powders come with a similar velvety feeling sponge. Continue reading

Wet n Wild Fergie BB Cream

I recently came across a display of the new(ish) Wet n Wild Fergie BB cream at Walmart, and was intrigued enough to pick on up to try, although I hadn’t seen any reviews. That was a mistake – I think this picture says it all.

No makeup // WnW Fergie BB Cream unblended & blended

I deliberately applied the BB cream over a freckle, and you can see that it’s not hidden at all.  I wouldn’t classify this as a BB cream (or foundation) – it’s a barely-tinted primer, or perhaps a barely-tinted sunscreen. The silver lining to the poor pigmentation is that it’s very useable as a sunscreen – I can apply the necessary half-teaspoon to my face without looking like I have makeup caked on – and in fact, without looking like I have makeup on at all.

I can’t find a place to purchase this online, and I believe it has very limited distribution in stores as well; I’ve never seen it at Walgreens, CVS, or Rite Aid. However, that’s not much of a loss – it’s definitely not recommended!

Wet n Wild Lady and the Vamp Red-dy or Not Rico Mauve Balm Stains

Good morning! Today I have swatches of three of Wet n Wild’s new MegaSlicks Balm Stains.  As you can see, these are packaged like all the other twist up lip pencils — RevlonKissable Balm Stains, Jordana balm stains, Hard Candy All Glossed Up pencils, Covergirl Gloss Balms, Tarte Lipsurgence pencils, etc.

The Wet n Wild balm stains are a permanent addition to the line, and come in six colors. I have Lady and the Vamp, Red-dy or Not, and Rico Mauve. The other shades are named A Stiff Pink, Pinky Promise, and Nudist Colony.

Wet n Wild 5-Pan Palettes

G. over at Nouveau Cheap posted a few days ago about some new and permanent Wet n Wild items that are starting to show up in stores. I found two of the items, the 5-pan palettes & balm stains (which appear to be similar to the Revlon and Jordana ones) at CVS, and decided to purchase all of the palettes and three of the balm stains. This evening, I have swatches of all the palettes as well as some initial thoughts.
