In My Travel Makeup Bag: A Casual Weekend Away

Purchased – Press Sample – Affiliate Links

Travel Makeup Bag

I’m at my parents’ house this weekend, so I thought I’d do a quick post on what makeup I brought with me.  I packed lightly this time – it’s going to be a casual weekend at home for the most part, with two nice-but-not-fancy dinners.  My makeup-packing philosophy is to bring items that are small, light, non-breakable (usually this means creams instead of powders), and replaceable (in case I lose them – so, not too expensive and not limited edition).  I’m fairly relaxed on the “replaceable” criterion when I visit family, as if I leave something there, I’ll get it back eventually.  This weekend, I also tried to pack items I could apply with fingers so I’d be able to get away with minimal brushes – just powder, eyeliner, and cream blush/ cream contour.

Here’s the same photo as above, but numbered for reference:

travel makeup bag - numbered

  1. Skindinavia Finishing Spray (originally a gift from a friend; I actually finished it and refilled with Embryolisse rosewater toner). I love using a spray after powdering for a more natural finish.
  2. Ben Nye cream contour in 01 Neutral
  3. Decant of Make Up For Ever Face & Body foundation
  4. L’oreal Infallible in Sahara Treasure – this shade isn’t available in the US, but I love it. Can be patted on with fingers, so no eyeshadow brush required. // swatched here
  5. Wet n Wild single eyeshadow in Brulee
  6. Dollywink liquid eyeliner // swatched here
  7. Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil in dark brown. This is a repurchase – I just finished my first one! // reviewed here
  8. Maybelline One by One Volume Express mascara
  9. Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  10. L’oreal Gel Liner in Dark Slate // reviewed here
  11. Sample of Hourglass Mineral Veil primer
  12. Guerlain Illuminating & Mattifying pressed powder (sadly discontinued! I’m on my fourth compact and I have one backup left).
  13. TheBalm Time Balm concealer // swatched here
  14. Addiction Cheek Stick in Tea Rose  // swatched here
  15. Maybelline Color Elixir in Intoxicating Spice // reviewed here
  16. Dior Fluid Stick in Vie d’Enfer // reviewed here
  17. Canmake Cream Cheek in Clear Red Heart  // reviewed here

*The Skindinavia finishing spray was a gift from a friend; the Embryolisse rosewater spray was a PR sample; the Hourglass primer was a free sample from Sephora. I purchased all other items featured in this post. This post contains affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more information.

Travel Brushes & Skincare

Travel skincare, makeup remover

Since my travel makeup post was getting a bit long, here is the skincare, makeup remover, and the makeup brushes I’ve brought with me!

In the morning, I usually just splash my face with water.  I have my daily sunscreen with me – Philosophy oil-free hope in jar, SPF 30.  I’ll use that when I’m going to be mostly indoors with bits of being outdoors; I have several higher-SPF sunscreens for my face & body (not pictured) for the pool.

In the evening, I have Shu Uemura cleansing oil to remove my makeup and sunscreen, and Simple eye makeup remover to both remove bits of makeup from under my eyes, or remove mistakes while I’m doing my makeup.  I also have two mini-packs of makeup remover tissues, both to take with me in my bag while I’m out, and in case I have a lazy night and don’t want to do full makeup removal before bed. My nightime moisturizer is the retinoid cream Avene Eluage.  And, I have two tubes of Jack Black lip balm, which I like despite the recent controversy over the ingredients.

The reason some of my brushes look odd in this photo is that they are damp.  From left to right, I have:

– retractable lipbrush & brush for smudging out eyeliner, tucked in together
– very small laydown brush (an art brush)
– MAC 239 (for laydown)
– Sephora eyebrow brush
– MUFE brush, for contouring, highlighting, and blush
– Real techniques buffer brush, for powder
– Sonia Kashuk angled brush, for blush and contour
– ELF powder brush
– MAC 219 pencil brush
– Hakuhodo brush (not sure of number), for detail work
– Smashbox brush, for highlighting browbone
– Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush, for blending

Once again – no intent to pack light!

This is a scheduled post as I’m currently in Las Vegas! I am reasonably sure that I’ll have internet to moderate and respond to comments, though I may be slower than usual.

In My Travel Makeup Bag – A Week in Las Vegas

I’ve posted the contents of my travel makeup bag twice before, but both times I packed fairly light as I was visiting family for a short time. This time, I’m going to Las Vegas for a week and I’m not even trying to pack light!

For my face, I brought a BB cream and a tinted moisturizer for day, and a favorite foundation (Guerlain Lingerie de Peau) for night.  I packed my favorite powder, but since it’s mostly used up, I also brought a pressed mineral powder foundation that I can use as powder, or as another daytime foundation option. I also brought my new favorite concealer, OCC Skin: Conceal.

More face: contour powder, blush, highlighter

I actually consider one contour powder, two blushes, and one highlighter packing relatively light – I have (in the order shown above) MAC Sculpt, Tarte Blissful, MAC Blushbaby, and MAC Lightscapade. I think I’ll probably focus mostly on my eyes or lips, so I will probably mainly use Blushbaby, but I also love corals so that’s my second option!

For my eyes, I have the following:

– Eyeshadow primer: NYX HD is my current favorite
– Mascara: Hourglass Full Spectrum is fabulous, and never smudges on me
– Milani Color Play eyeliner in black, my favorite black liquid liner
– Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner in Deepest Black, my favorite black pencil liner (to tightline or for a smudgier liner)
– MAC Chromagraphic pencil in NC15/NW20 (for my waterline)
– Pencil sharpener; essential when bringing pencils! I learned this the hard way.
Illamasqua Neutral Palette, a favorite. I need a matte beige and a matte black, so I usually travel with Wet n Wild Greed, but this time I also wanted the gold from the Neutral Palette.
– Four single eyeshadows: Armani ETK #25, L’Oreal Infallible in Gleaming Bronze, Burberry Trench, and Shiro Cosmetics Master Sword (a gorgeous loose eyeshadow / glitterbomb – required for Vegas, I think!)
– A mini Pixie Epoxie to go with the loose eyeshadow

For my lips, the following:

– two Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm stains – I am continuing to absolutely love these, and the colors I am bringing (Romantic and Rendezvous) are my favorites. I especially like them mixed together.
– my favorite red lip, NARS Cruella
– a dark berry lip, Guerlain Guet-Apens
– a coral lip, YSL glossy stain #12 corail fauve
– my perfect nude lip: mac blankety mixed with poppy king confidence
– with a nude revlon gloss, too
– and a bright lip: occ lip tar in radiate

Since it’s Vegas, I’m also bringing plenty of lashes, both individual and strip. I forgot to photograph my eyebrow powder, so that’s in this photo instead of the eye one where it belongs!

I am also bringing brushes (of course) & some skincare / makeup remover – but this post is long enough as is, so I’ll put that in a separate post!

This is a scheduled post as I’m currently in Las Vegas! I am reasonably sure that I’ll have internet to moderate and respond to comments, though I may be slower than usual.

In My Travel Makeup Bag

I’m off to visit family for a long weekend, and here’s a look at the makeup I’m bringing with me! The makeup I pack really varies depending on what I’m doing. Since I’ll be visiting family for a couple days, I decided to pack fairly minimal makeup; I’m not going to be wearing anything bright or sparkling.  I’m going to Las Vegas for a week mid-summer, and I’ll post my travel makeup then too – you’ll see how different that is!

For my face, I’m bringing everything to have even skin – the focus of my makeup this weekend will be looking refreshed and natural.

I’m not planning any intricate eye looks, so I just have basics for my eyes!

  • Eyeshadow Primer – Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Eyeshadow – Wet n Wild Greed Palette, NARS Lhasa
  • Eyeliner – Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner in Deepest Black
  • Pencil Sharpener – Urban Decay Grindhouse (if you bring an eyeliner, bring a pencil sharpener. I learned this the hard way!!)
  • Mascara – Hourglass mini
  • Eyebrows – Anastasia Brow Duo Powder in Brunette

For my lips, I just have three lipsticks (plus Jack Black lip balm – not pictured)

  • My perfect rosy everyday shade – NARS Gipsy
  • My perfect bright – Essence Red Carpet
  • My perfect barely-there neutral – Poppy King Confidence

I’m only bringing six brushes; four travel sized Crown brushes that I got off Hautelook a while back, and two full sized brushes that I can’t do without. If I were planning to do more eye makeup, I’d bring full sized eye brushes, but I’m not, so these will do!

From left to right

  • Full size Sephora eyeshadow brush
  • Full sized MUFE brush – for contour, blush, and higlight
  • Three mini Crown brushes for eyes
  • Mini Crown powder brush

Everything is packed in my favorite travel makeup bag, which is from Rite Aide (and I’ve seen it there recently, if you’re interested).  I like it because there are separate compartments for makeup and brushes, and although it’s quite compact, quite a lot fits inside.

Do you tend to pack light makeup-wise, or bring a lot with you when you travel?

Travel Makeup Bag for a Short Trip

I went up to visit my parent’s house last weekend, so here’s a post on my travel makeup bag! One thing is that my travel makeup varies a lot; what I bring really depends on where I’m going, what I’m doing, and how long I’m gone. Since this was a two-day, very casual trip, I only brought a very small bag, and I didn’t use half of what I brought.

This is my favorite small travel bag, because it has two sections – a large section for my makeup, and a small section for brushes.

I brought my backup foundation, Bourjois Healthy Mix, and my favorite concealer, Laura Geller The Real Deal. I didn’t use either.

I brought my favorite eyeshadow palette, WnW Greed, and my new favorite single eyeshadow – NARS Lhasa (review). I did use both of these. I also brought black eyeliner, but forgot a sharpener. I of course brought and used black mascara and eyeshadow primer. I brought my favorite eyebrow powder, but neglected to use it.

Instead of bringing a separate blush and highlighter, I brought MAC Flower Fantasy Pearlmatte (review), which functions as both. I’m really enjoying this – it’s very soft and pretty. I also brought my go-to contour, Benefit Hoola.

I went a bit overboard on the lipsticks and balms. In addition to the ones pictured above, I had Jack Black lipbalm, which I wore constantly, as always. I also wore the Poppy King Intrigue (the silver tube, pictured) one time. I didn’t wear any of the rest of them! I do think I chose a nice selection; a my lips but better shade (NARS Gipsy), a red (NYC Sheer Red), a nude (Poppy King Intrigue), and a tinted balm (though it looks clear on me – Lanolips Mulberry).

I have a separate set of travel brushes – it’s so much easier than figuring out what to take with me each time. They’re Crown brushes that I got on Hautelook fairly cheaply, plus a retractable Ecotools powder/blush/bronzer brush.

Also: some miscellaneous blog news. I picked a winner to my recent giveaway.  Yay giveaways!

And, you may have noticed that I have a new header, which I love and adore. It was designed by the ever-awesome and stylish Sara at Cartoon Heart.  Thank you so much Sara!
