Rimmel ScandalEyes Show Off MascaraI haven’t tried very many Rimmel products, so during a 50% off sale at Walgreens, I picked up the new Scandal Eyes Show Off mascara – mainly because I was intrigued by the brush.  I’ve seen several brushes with a spiked ball on the tip, but this is the first I’ve tried.

Here’s a close up of the brush:

I really like the mascara wand; the ball makes it easy to get the small inner and out corner lashes, and the wand as a whole is a nice size – not too big.

In the above picture, I did not curl my lashes, and I applied one thorough coat of the mascara. It does a very good job of curling and lengthening, and an okay job of volumizing. It does not clump. Do I sound unenthusiastic?

This is why – this is a photo taken about 30 minutes after application:

See those black smudges under my eye? I tried out this mascara four or five times, and every single time it smudged this badly within an hour.  The first time I wore it, it was a warm day and I was helping someone move, so I thought it might just not stand up to heat very well. But when I took this photo, all I’d done after applying the mascara was sit at my computer typing for half an hour.

On the positive side, I like the wand enough that I kept it to apply other mascaras.  I have already thrown out the tube (I do this occasionally, or keep the wand after using up a tube of mascara).  It’s available online for about $7 at drugstore.com or Ulta, but I don’t recommend buying it!

  • thats a really good idea to keep the wand actually. i love the fairydrops mascara wand so much i’m not sad i threw it away… how do you clean it up for later use? just makeupremover?

    • If it’s washable, I just use soap & water – if it is waterproof, I’d use makeup remover or oil to dissolve it, the wash with soap & water 🙂

Thanks for the review and believe me I will avoid that one then. I have been curious about it since seeing the ads. I do like the way that brush tip is shaped for getting those small lashes in the inner corners too.

I like brushes like this too! Have you tried the e.l.f. 3-in-1 mascara with the similar brush? It’s in their Studio line. It’s a tubing formula, so no flaking or smearing. It’s pretty cool. (I do not work for them!)

    • I’ve seen that one, but ELF is so hit & miss for me that I was pretty skeptical about trying a mascara. But I like tubing mascara a lot, so I’ll definitely give it a try, thanks!
