LA Girl Glissand Sand Blast Swatch

LA Girl Glissand

LA Girl hit it out of the park with their fabulous 3D Effect scattered holo collection (reviewed here),  so I was happy to accept when they offered to send me a polish for review from their newest collection, Sand Blast textured nail polish.  I have not spotted the Sand Blast collection at Rite Aid yet (and I’m waiting for word on when & whether it will arrive there), but the polishes are currently available for $5 each on LA Girl’s own website or $3 each on Cherryculture.

L'oreal Miss Candy Gellie Nail Polish - Miss Pixie Berry Nice

As I mentioned, there are a lot of new drugstore collections out right now, and I found one of them today – L’oreal’s new Miss Candy Gellie nail polishes (display pictures at the end of the post). I purchased two of them, and I’ll definitely be going back for more – they’re even better than I had hoped!

Ninja Polish Divinity

Ninja Polish Divinity: purple & red with a green shift. In the photo above, I freehanded the black pattern with Stripe Rite paint from Sally Beauty. The photo is from my Instagram, which (as I think I’ve mentioned before) is entirely photographs of my nails and my kittens.

There are lots of new collections landing at the drugstore, but I haven’t spotted any of them myself yet – Nouveau Cheap has all the details! I’m most excited about L’oreal’s new Miss Candy collection, which has “Gellie” – aka jelly – finish nail polishes and LE infallible eyeshadows. Maybelline’s LE Colors Tattoos have potential too – Seashore Frosts is the most intriguing to me.

And coming up soon (or soon-ish) on Project Swatch:

– I will, of course, be purchasing and reviewing a selection of items from the new drugstore collections;

– Swatches of all my purple & berry lipsticks;

– A comparison of nine (!) different eyeshadow primers (I was surprised to find out I had so many);

And more!

Nails, Inc. Noho Leather Effect Polish – Swatch of the Day

Nails Inc Leather Effect Noho Swatch

I’m (still!) loving the textured polish trend, and I was really wanting a black. I was waiting for a drugstore brand to release one, but since none seems forthcoming, I broke down and bought the Nails, Inc. Leather Effect Polish in Noho.  Nails, Inc.’s leather effect polishes are textured, but have a finer grain than other textured polishes I’ve tried. Nails, Inc. has another textured polish, the Concrete Effect polish, which appears to be more similar in texture to say, Milani’s textured polishes.

NYC Let’s Paint The Town Nail Polish Swatches

NYC Apple Fizz Raindrop Shimmer Blast Swatch

Apple Fizz // Raindrop // Apple Fizz + Shimmer Blast // Raindrop + Shimmer Blast //
Black Creme + Shimmer Blast

This is the final post (at least for now) in my series of swatches of NYC’s new Let’s Paint the Town collection. I purchased three of the four nail polishes, which are all from the $2 quick-dry nail polish line. Note that all swatch photos in this post are in natural light.

NYC Apple Fizz Raindrop

Apple Fizz // Raindrop

First, the cremes.  Both were thick and streaky, which is not uncommon with lighter colors, but is still not what I want in a polish! I had a lot of difficultly applying them neatly, and I was not happy with the final result; so I thinned them with nail polish thinner (I like Orly’s; be sure to get one that doesn’t have acetone as an ingredient).  After thinner, they performed much better.  The first coat was still streaky, but was thin enough to apply smoothly, and after 2-3 coats they looked even and smooth. Thinning is definitely recommended with these polishes!

You can see the thickness and streakiness in the Raindrop swatch; the first coat of Raindrop was applied as bought, and the second coat was thinned, but not quite enough.

And you can se how much better Apple Fizz performed – this is three very thin coats, because I thinned it sufficiently. This is a fantastic color – bright and pastel at the same time.

NYC Shimmer Blast

Shimmer Blast is definitely a top coat; it doesn’t really show up alone.  Over black (or other dark colors), it appears blue-green (due to the density of the blue-green shimmer particles) with some pink and gold shimmer as well.

Over Raindrop & Apple Fizz, it adds a very subtle shimmer:

Overall, I do recommend these polishes.  Raindrop isn’t a shade I am particularly drawn to, but that’s just a personal preference – I can tell that it’s a shade others will love. And I love Apple Fizz and Shimmer Blast!   It’s too bad that the formulas of the cremes aren’t better, but it’s nothing that some shimmer can’t fix; for polishes this cheap, I don’t mind a little diy.
