notd - st patricks day

In the spirit of St. Patrick’s day, today’s NOTD is a bright springtime green (Pure Ice Free Spirit) with a green holo topcoat (Milani Hi-Tech). Both polishes are swatched individually below.

And, if you’re trying to figure out which green polish to wear today, here are twelve of my favorites (I purchased all of these myself).

Butter London Wallis Color Club Port-Folio Hits Cool Swatches

Butter London Wallis // Color Club Port-Folio // Hits Mari Moon Cool

Butter London Wallis is one of my favorite greens of all time; I just love the antique gold-greens whether in nail polish or eyeshadow.

Color Club Port-Folio is actually purple, but has a strong green duochrome. It would be a great “green” to wear if you don’t want to wear a green!

Hits Mari Moon Cool is a gorgeous gold/green/purple duochrome – I just love all the Hits duochromes!

China Glaze OMG A UFO Milani Hi-Tech A-England St. George

China Glaze OMG A UFO // Milani Hi-Tech // A-England St. George

China Glaze OMG A UFO is a new favorite – a linear green holo, YAY! (By the way, the [affiliate] link goes to CherryCulture, who is selling the China Glaze holos for only $3.99 each; the best price I’ve seen. They’re all out of stock at the moment, but perhaps they will be back soon, or perhaps they haven’t come in yet).

Milani Hi-Tech is a scattered green holo. This is three coats; it’s very sheer, which I actually love, because it layers so well – you can make a dusty green holo as in this post, or a bright green holo like in the current post. I think this may be discontinued (sadly!) – I don’t see it available for purchase online at the usual suspects, and it was recently on clearance at CVS.

A-England St. George is more teal than green, but so gorgeous I had to include it!

Essence Walk on the Wild Side Essie Armed & Ready Sew Psyched Swatches

Essence Walk on the Wild Side // Essie Armed & Ready // Essie Sew Psyched

Essence Walk on the Wild Side is a new-ish addition to my stash; I love the darker green base with lighter green flecks.

It’s surprising that two of my favorite greens are Essie polishes, since I only have a handful of Essies in my stash, but I really do love both the dark murky green of Armed & Ready and the lighter murky green of Sew Psyched.

Pure Ice Free Spirit Don't Mess With OPI Hard Candy Jubilee Swatches

Pure Ice Free Spirit // OPI Don’t Mess With OPI // Hard Candy Jubilee

Pure Ice Free Sprit (exclusively available in Walmart stores) is such a HAPPY bright green with a subtle shimmer. I love it.

OPI Don’t Mess With OPI came out about two years ago as part of the Texas collection, which is best known for its gorgeous jellies (which I also love).  It’s still quite easy to find – I often see it at CVS.

Hard Candy just reformulated and redid its entire nail polish line. It’s up on Walmart.com here,  but not in stock yet. Jubilee is a mixed bag; I love how it looks, but it’s tricky to work with – the red bar glitters curl, and it’s quite thick.  I have three coats of topcoat on the swatch (none of the other polishes have any topcoat).  Still, it’s unique and interesting, so it may be worth it to you!

Which of these polishes do you like?

*As noted in this review, I purchased all twelve of the featured polishes.  This post contains affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more information.

Revlon Chroma Chameleon Polishes - Pink Quartz Amethyst Tanzanite Aquamarine

Pink Quartz // Amethyst // Tanzanite // Aquamarine

Today at CVS, I found an untouched display of Revlon’s new Chroma Chameleon polishes.  I think they’re very overpriced at $8.29 (prices may vary by store) for only .29 oz, but luckily CVS has a great deal on Revlon polish this week – $4.99 with $2 back in Extra Bucks.  I had four $1 off coupons for Revlon polishes, so my total (per polish) was $1.99 – a much better price!

Since these are duochromes, I swatched them both alone and over black. I only have nail wheel swatches at the moment, since I wanted to get this post up quickly, but if I have time to swatch these on my nails, I’ll do that and add those swatches to this post.

All four of the polishes were thin, fluid, and easy to apply. They have small brushes which were easy to work with.  Dry time was average.  Note that some of the colors require three coats to be opaque when worn.

Below, each polish is swatched is two coats alone (left swatch), and one coat over black (right swatch) with no top coat.

As you can see, Pink Quartz is a peachy-pink that shifts to gold.  It is identical to China Glaze Swanky Silk, and very similar to Maybelline Pink Cosmo, but the Maybelline is very sheer. (My comparison photographs didn’t come out; I’ll retake them and add them to this post by tomorrow).

Amethyst is a purple with a strong green shift. When both are swatched over black, it looks very similar to TKB’s pigment Travel to Venus as nail polish, which I swatched yesterday.  The Revlon has more brushstrokes.

Tanzanite is purple with a slight gold shift; I have a lot of duochrome polish, but I don’t seem to have anything similar.

Aquamarine is light blue alone and vivid blue over black.  Either way, it has a slight purple shift. I don’t have anything similar to it swatched alone, but when each polish is swatched over black, it’s quite similar to Model’s Own Aqua Violet Beetle Juice (which I never would have thought of – this is why having all my polish on swatch sticks is so useful!).

For completeness, here are the remaining four polishes that I didn’t purchase:

revlon chroma chameleon rose gold gold topaz cobalt

Rose Gold // Gold // Topaz // Cobalt

Overall, I really like these polishes, especially Amethyst.  I would absolutely recommend buying them at CVS this week for $3, but I am hesitant to recommend spending $8 on them when for only $7, you can get the gorgeous HITS multichrome polishes.

Do you have your eye on any of these?

OPI DS Classic // Butter London All Hail The Queen // Color Club Cherubic //
Color Club Cosmic Fate // China Glaze FYI

I love, love nude / neutral holo polishes.  I have five so far – two scattered and two linear.  My favorites are Butter London All Hail The Queen and China Glaze FYI, which are the two with the smallest holo particles – but I really do love all five.  Do you have a favorite?
