Wet n Wild Color Up MegaVolume Mascara

Olive Green // Indigo Blue // Cashmere Plum // Retro Pink

Yesterday, I spotted a new Wet n Wild limited edition collection consisting of four colored mascaras: Olive Green, Indigo Blue, Cashmere Plum, and Retro Pink.  They’re in Wet n Wild’s Megavolume mascara formula, which I had not previously tried.

Here’s the same skin swatch I posted yesterday:

Olive Green // Indigo Blue // Cashmere Plum // Retro Pink

You can see that the formulas of the mascaras differ; the green has the best formula by far.  The blue is extremely pigmented, but difficult to work with because it stains the skin so badly (it was VERY difficult to remove the stain from the swatch on my arm – it took a lot of oil, a lot of makeup remover, and a lot of scrubbing). The plum is a lovely color but very wet – I have the mascara open now, and I’m hoping that drying it out will improve the formula. The pink is a bit too wet, but not as bad as the purple.

Here are close-up photos of the mascaras on my lashes:

As you can see, all the colors show up fairly well. I had the most difficultly getting Cashmere Plum to show up because the formula is so wet, which makes the color hard to build.  Note that the blue will definitely stain light-colored lashes.

These are quite subtle from a distance, but I like how they add just a little color. Here are some photos of the green, which I am wearing today, from a bit more distance.

I’ve been wearing this one – which again, has the best formula – for about 7 hours today and it’s wearing very well – no smudging, smearing, or flaking thus far. I’ll update if I end up having any problems with the formula!

Overall, these are fun mascaras at a great price point, and a great way to experiment with the colored mascara trend. I would recommend the green one without reservations. The blue is lovely, but tricky to apply due to the staining issue – I would recommend it only if you’re willing to be extra-careful when you apply.  I’m still on the fence about the purple and I’ll have to see how it is after it has a chance to dry out. As for the pink? I have no idea how to wear a pink mascara – but I guess I would recommend it if you’re looking for one!

Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Medley Palettes

34120 (Gold) // 34121 (Blue)

Yesterday, I spotted a Walgreens-exclusive display with two new, limited edition, unnamed and unusual looking Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Medley palettes. I have to admit – I was pretty skeptical that they would be as good as the normal Color Icon palettes.  I swatched both of them this morning, and I was wrong – they’re both great palettes. Since they are not named, I have nicknamed them the Gold palette and the Blue palette, for the shade in the upper left hand corner. The Gold palette is warmer, and the Blue palette is cooler.

As I posted last night, the back of the packaging explains that the top three shades are meant to be shimmer overcoats, the middle three shades are meant to be pearls, and the lower two shades are meant to be matte.

34120 – Gold

Please note that the three shimmer overcoat shades in each palette were swatched with a fingertip (as this helps them show up better), and the other five shades in each palette were swatched with a sponge tip applicator as per usual. As always, I swatched over dry skin without primer.

Shimmer Overcoats – in focus & blurred to show sparkle

The most surprisingly shadows were the shimmer overcoats; they’re really lovely.  Wet n Wild suggests that they are meant for the browbone, but I would only wear them on the lid.  I suggest using a sticky base to minimize fallout. I especially love the first shade – such a gorgeous sparkling gold.

The next three shades are meant to be pearls.  The first shade is a light yellow / gold with okay to poor pigmentation. I think it’s actually a matte with sparkle and not a pearl, but it’s hard to tell due to the color and pigmentation level. Then we have a pink and a rusty red; both have good, but not excellent, pigmentation.

The final two shades in the Gold palette are a light warm brown and a black – both are excellent, pigmented and smooth.

Next, the Blue (34121) palette:

I would say that overall, the Blue / cooler palette is better quality (though I really do love that first gold shade in the Gold palette!). I’ll go through each shade.

Again, the Shimmer Overcoats are lovely quality, but should be used over a sticky base to minimize fallout. I’m really excited to use these!

And again, the first shade of the pearls (here, a light aqua) is not a pearl, but a matte with sparkle.  However, this one is good quality – smooth and pigmented.  The next shade, another rusty red, is excellent quality – very buttery.  The third shade, the brighter pink, is mediocre; it’s okay, but a bit sheer and patchy.

Here we have a dark, cool brown that is really excellent – smooth, pigmented, and blendable.  The navy blue is a really lovely color, but is a bit sheer.

Overall, I really like these palettes! They both have some stand-out excellent shades, along with some just – okay shades.  I am quite happy with them, and glad I bought them both!

Wet n Wild Get Your Look Walgreens Display

While at Walgreens, I also noticed this “Get Your Look” Wet n Wild display.  I immediately noticed the eyeshadows, since they are new and unique – the polishes, lipsticks, and mascara/ eyelash growth serum are all permanent products.

The eyeshadows state that they are the Color Icon eyeshadow formula and are called a “Color Icon Eyeshadow Medley” – but they are not named, just numbered.

The different rows of shadows are meant to have different formulas, as described on the back of the palettes:

Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow PalettesThe photo is a little blurry – it says:

Top Row: Shimmer Overcoats for Browbone
Middle Row: Pearl Powders for Eyelid
Bottom Row: Matte Definers for Eye line

I haven’t had the chance to swatch these yet – I’ll post swatches as soon as I can; either tonight or tomorrow!

Edit: Swatches are here – and these eyeshadows performed better than I expected, too!

I was just at Walgreens, and I spotted several exciting new displays.  I’m going out this evening, but I’ll do my best to post as many as I can (starting with what I think will be the most popular!) before I need to get ready.  First up: Wet n Wild has a new, limited edition, collection of four colored mascaras out in the megavolume mascara formula.

Here’s the full display (I believe all items in the display except the mascaras are permanent items):

And a close up of the mascaras:

Here are some quick skin swatches of the mascaras:

Olive Green // Indigo Blue // Cashmere Plum // Retro Pink

 First impressions:

Olive Green is fantastic; great formula, the color shows up beautifully on dark lashes.

Indigo Blue is difficult to work with because it stains the skin instantly – you have to be very careful when you apply!

Cashmere Plum is too wet; it may work better once the formula dries out a little. I may leave the tube open for a couple hours and see if that helps.

Retro Pink is also a little too wet; I have no idea what kind of look goes with a pink mascara!

I have lots to post and little time to post it, so swatches of these on my lashes will need to wait until tomorrow!

EDIT: Swatches (on the lashes) are in this post.

Wet n Wild Spring Awakening Eyeshadow Palette Swatches: Nude Awakening & Going In The Wild

Purchase

Wet n Wild Spring Awakening Palettes

I finally found them! I’m talking about Wet n Wild’s Spring Awakening Eyeshadow Palettes, which are limited edition for Spring 2013; first spotted several weeks ago, they’ve been quite elusive in my neck of the woods, and I didn’t find them until today.  I bought a set for myself and another set to give away; the giveaway is in a separate post here.

Since I just bought these palettes, this post is pictures, swatches, and initial thoughts, rather than a full review.

Wet n Wild Nude Awakening

First up: Nude Awakening (Note: Do not search for the name of this palette on Google images with Safe Search turned off, at least not if you want to see eyeshadow!).

I swatched by going top to bottom down the left column, then down the right colum.

Nude Awakening – Left Column

The left brownbone shade is my favorite shade out of both palettes; it doesn’t show up very well on my skin because of the color, but the finish is gorgeous – it’s almost but not quite matte. It’s a very similar finish to Burberry Trench, though the color is a little lighter. I think it is going to be my new favorite highlight shade, and this shade alone is worth the ($5) price of the palette for me.

Wet n Wild Nude Awakening Swatches-3

Nude Awakening – Right Column

Another thing I really love about this palette is that the eyeshadows aren’t overly shimmery; they’re more of a low pearl or satin finish, which I find really flattering. I hate to say it since it’s currently so hard to find, but I think I really love this palette (so far)

Nude Awakening’s color scheme – neutrals plus grey & soft black – is reminiscent of the Urban Decay Naked Palette.  So, I pulled out my Naked Palette to see if there were any actual dupes, and I found some similar shades.

UD Buck vs. WnW Left Crease // UD Gunmetal vs. WnW Right Crease //
Urban Decay Creep vs. WnW Right Definer

Everyone has different ideas about what they consider a dupe, but I personally think Gunmetal and Creep are duped, and the Buck shade is similar, but not quite a dupe.

Wet n Wild Going in the Wild

Wet n Wild Going in the Wild

Moving on, we have Going in the Wild; I found that several of the eyeshadows in this palette were a bit harder than Wet n Wild’s usual Color Icon formula, and had less payoff than typical.

Wet n Wild Going in the Wild Swatches

Going in the Wild

Wet n Wild Going in the Wild Swatches-3

Going in the Wild – Left Column

None of these four shades impressed me very much; the left browbone shade is pretty and sparkly, but not unique.  The matte lavender left crease shade was terrible – very poor payoff (the swatch is heavily layered).

Wet n Wild Going in the Wild Swatches-2

Going in the Wild – Right Column

I was also unimpressed by the yellow/gold right brownbone shade – mostly sparkle, little color.  The standout shade in this palette is definitely the mint green, which is gorgeous and very pigmented.  It’s a bit outside of my comfort zone in terms of color, but it’s so pretty that I might have to push myself to wear it!

Overall, if you manage to find these palettes, I suggest that you snap up Nude Awakening immediately! It’s a fantastic palette at a fantastic price.  Going in the Wild is more of an edge case; if you like the mint green, it’s worth it, but if you don’t, I’d probably skip it.
