Revlon Baby Sticks Swatches & Initial Thoughts

Purchase
Revlon Baby Sticks

Sunset // Pink Passion // Tahiti

Revlon has a new collection out called the Pacific Coast Collection by Gucci Westman. The collection includes four new shades of lip butters, four shades of Colorstay polish, a white Colorstay gel eyeliner, two Colorstay eyeshadow quads, and one totally new product – the Baby Sticks, which come in three shades (Sunset, Tahiti, and Pink Passion).  I purchased all three to swatch and review.  Since I just bought them today, this post is swatches and my initial thoughts rather than a full review.

As you can see, the Baby Sticks are packaged in plastic tubes that exactly match the color of the product inside.  The lids snap closed quite securely – I don’t think they would be likely to open in your bag.  The product inside twists up and down easily.  The plastic tube does not have the shade name printed on it, but there is a white adhesive label on the tube itself which has the bar code, ingredients, and shade name. The Baby Sticks were shrinkwrapped (yay for drugstore packaging that shows when it hasn’t been opened!).

It’s hard to tell from the first photo, but the tubes are very small, and there isn’t much product inside (.1oz) – here are two photos with a quarter for perspective.  For perspective, Revlon’s Photoready Cream blush has .44oz, and MAC’s Cremeblend blush has .19oz.

It’s always hard for me to describe textures – I guess I would call this sort of emollient and waxy.  It blends easily, and leaves a sheen on the skin. It is comfortable on the lips, but quite different from the texture of most lipsticks and balms, though closer to a waxy balm than anything else. I did not detect any smell or taste, but I have a cold right now and there may be a scent I am just missing!

Now to the potential problem with these: they are sheer. Really, really sheer. Here are one-swipe swatches of all three shades, done with medium pressure.

Revlon Sunset Pink Passion Tahiti Baby Stick Swatches-2

One swipe each: Sunset // Pink Passion // Tahiti

Here are VERY heavy swatches; these are about 15-20 swipes done with heavy pressure. It would not be possible to wear these like this – it’s just too much product; I swatched them like this so you could better see the color of the Baby Sticks.

Revlon Sunset Pink Passion Tahiti Baby Stick Swatches

15 – 20 swipes each: Sunset // Pink Passion // Tahiti

As you can see, Pink Passion is the most pigmented.  I can definitely see it working as blush on those with fair skin, and it might work on those with medium skin who prefer sheer blush.  Sunset may work on those with fair skin who prefer sheer blush.  I don’t see Tahiti working on anyone – it’s so so sheer that it’s almost clear.

Since these are meant for the cheeks & lips, I also did lip swatches. In each set, the top photo is my lips with no product, and the lower photo is with the Baby Stick applied.

I can’t see Tahitian on my lips – maybe just a hint of shine.

Sunset adds a hint of color.

And Pink Passion works very well on the lips; it looks and feels similar to a tinted balm.

So, overall, I am a bit disappointed in the Baby Sticks. I love cream blush, and I love multipurpose lip/cheek products, but I really prefer a more opaque product I can sheer out (or even a sheer product I can build!) to a product like this, which is sheer and not very buildable.  I’ll play with them some more, and update this review if my thoughts change.

If you prefer a more intensely colored product, I would skip these.  If you’re okay with something sheer, I would tentatively recommend checking out Pink Passion – the pigmentation level of that one in particular is really quite reasonable, and the texture (as a first impression) seems very nice.  I suggest that everyone skip Tahiti – it’s just too sheer to be workable – and I’m still on the fence about Sunset.

I hope these swatches were helpful – after seeing this, are you interested in the Baby Sticks?

Revlon Chroma Chameleon Duochrome Polishes Swatches, Comparisons, Review

Revlon Chroma Chameleon Polishes - Pink Quartz Amethyst Tanzanite Aquamarine

Pink Quartz // Amethyst // Tanzanite // Aquamarine

Today at CVS, I found an untouched display of Revlon’s new Chroma Chameleon polishes.  I think they’re very overpriced at $8.29 (prices may vary by store) for only .29 oz, but luckily CVS has a great deal on Revlon polish this week – $4.99 with $2 back in Extra Bucks.  I had four $1 off coupons for Revlon polishes, so my total (per polish) was $1.99 – a much better price!

Since these are duochromes, I swatched them both alone and over black. I only have nail wheel swatches at the moment, since I wanted to get this post up quickly, but if I have time to swatch these on my nails, I’ll do that and add those swatches to this post.

All four of the polishes were thin, fluid, and easy to apply. They have small brushes which were easy to work with.  Dry time was average.  Note that some of the colors require three coats to be opaque when worn.

Below, each polish is swatched is two coats alone (left swatch), and one coat over black (right swatch) with no top coat.

As you can see, Pink Quartz is a peachy-pink that shifts to gold.  It is identical to China Glaze Swanky Silk, and very similar to Maybelline Pink Cosmo, but the Maybelline is very sheer. (My comparison photographs didn’t come out; I’ll retake them and add them to this post by tomorrow).

Amethyst is a purple with a strong green shift. When both are swatched over black, it looks very similar to TKB’s pigment Travel to Venus as nail polish, which I swatched yesterday.  The Revlon has more brushstrokes.

Tanzanite is purple with a slight gold shift; I have a lot of duochrome polish, but I don’t seem to have anything similar.

Aquamarine is light blue alone and vivid blue over black.  Either way, it has a slight purple shift. I don’t have anything similar to it swatched alone, but when each polish is swatched over black, it’s quite similar to Model’s Own Aqua Violet Beetle Juice (which I never would have thought of – this is why having all my polish on swatch sticks is so useful!).

For completeness, here are the remaining four polishes that I didn’t purchase:

Rose Gold // Gold // Topaz // Cobalt

Overall, I really like these polishes, especially Amethyst.  I would absolutely recommend buying them at CVS this week for $3, but I am hesitant to recommend spending $8 on them when for only $7, you can get the gorgeous HITS multichrome polishes.

Do you have your eye on any of these?

Revlon Chroma Chameleon Duochrome Collection With Display Photos

It looks like Revlon is joining in the duochrome polish trend with eight new polishes – good news for me, since I love duochrome nails!

EDIT: Swatches are here.

A friend from a nail forum, who goes by the name Mephitine, spotted this new Revlon collection at a Bed, Bath & Beyond store today, and kindly allowed me to post these pictures! The polishes are .29 fl oz (small), and retailed for $5.99, though price may vary by region.  I don’t see any indication that this is a limited edition collection, but I’m not sure yet. These are limited edition; Mephitine just told me that the top of the display (which is cut off in the photo) states that this is a LE collection.

I also have bottle shots of each shade:

I will be looking out for these – Amethyst looks especially gorgeous, but I’ll probably buy a couple shades when I find them. Let me know if you see these! And thanks again to Mephitine for the photos!

Revlon Colorburst Lip Gloss Swatches

revlon colorburst lipgloss

As promised, I have swatches of all of my Revlon Colorburst Lipglosses for you! This post is going to be short & sweet, as I only have skin swatches (& no lip swatches) at the moment.

revlon colorburst lipgloss swatches - eggnog, killer watt, papaya, sunbaked, bordeaux, fire

Eggnog // Killer Watt // Papaya // Sunbaked // Bordeaux // Fire

Eggnog is a pale nude with no shimmer- it’s not clear, it just appears that way on my skin. It was limited edition and is not currently available (I actually bought mine on Ebay).

Killer Watt is a bright, but very sheer, coral (no shimmer). Full post here; it’s limited edition and currently available.

Papaya is a more pigmented coral with a fine shimmer. I thought it was a permanent shade, but I don’t see it online at the usual retailers. You can still find it on Amazon!

Sunbaked is a lovely neutral with no shimmer. It is a permanent shade. I just bought this one and already love it!

Bordeaux is, appropriately, a wine shade. This has a fine shimmer, and is a permanent shade.

Fire is a moderately pigmented true red – another permanent shade.

Do you own any of the Colorburst lip glosses? Which one is your favorite?

Revlon Killer Watt Colorburst Lipgloss Review & Swatches

revlon killer watt

Revlon recently released the new, limited-edition Naked Tips & Neon Lips collection which consists of eight shades of Colorstay nail polish and three shades of Colorburst lipgloss. Today I have a review and swatches of one of the shades of lipgloss – Killer Watt – for you.

Revlon’s Colorburst Lipgloss is one of my favorite lipgloss formulas – it’s not sticky or slippery. It is moisturizing, reasonably long wearing (for a gloss), and very comfortable to wear. I now own six colors, and I’ll have swatches of all them for you in a post that’s coming up shortly.

Killer Watt is looks very bright in the tube (and is part of a collection called Neon Lips!) but is surprisingly subtle when swatched and when applied.  I’d describe it as a sheer coral.

Overall, this lipgloss isn’t exactly what I expected (though I did get a heads-up from a commenter that it was not neon – thank you!), but it’s a lovely gloss, and I’m glad to have it! I do recommend the Revlon Colorburst glosses generally as a good quality drugstore lip gloss.
